New Delhi: India has taken a major step toward becoming a global semiconductor powerhouse. The Future of India’s Semiconductor Industry Roadmap, released by NITI Aayog, outlines a long-term strategy to build a strong domestic semiconductor ecosystem and reduce dependence on imports. 

The roadmap aims to position India as a trusted global hub for chip design, manufacturing, advanced packaging, research, and talent development by 2035.

What Is the NITI Aayog Semiconductor Roadmap

NITI Aayog’s Frontier Tech Hub launched a comprehensive 10-year roadmap called “Future of India’s Semiconductor Industry.”

The roadmap aims to help India build a USD 120–150 billion semiconductor value chain by 2035. It also seeks to transform India from a large semiconductor consumer into a major global producer and innovation hub.

  • Building leadership in compound semiconductors
  • Strengthening chip design and intellectual property creation
  • Creating more than 100 advanced semiconductor design IPs

The strategy is built around five major pillars:

What Government Leaders Said

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the roadmap provides a clear declaration of India’s intention to become a major player in the global semiconductor value chain. She highlighted opportunities in advanced packaging, compound semiconductors, wide-bandgap materials, and AI-native chip design.

Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that semiconductors will shape the next phase of economic and technological leadership. He emphasized India’s goal of building a complete ecosystem covering design, talent, materials, equipment, fabrication, and packaging.

Connection With India Semiconductor Mission 2.0

The roadmap supports the priorities announced under India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) 2.0 in Union Budget 2026.
