Jakarta: PM Modi’s visit marked a major milestone in India-Indonesia relations as both countries signed 20 important agreements covering defence, trade, critical minerals, healthcare, education, agriculture, digital technology and culture. The agreements aim to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries and deepen cooperation across the Indo-Pacific region. Most of the outcomes were announced jointly by the Government of India and Indonesia during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to Jakarta.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta. The leaders agreed to expand cooperation in defence, maritime security, digital public infrastructure, trade, innovation and education. 1. Minerals and Steel Supply Chain Cooperation
India and Indonesia signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation in minerals and steel supply chains. The partnership will promote investment, advanced mining technologies, joint research and stronger supply chains for critical minerals.
2. Maritime Safety and Security
Both countries extended cooperation on maritime safety and security. The agreement improves coordination between coast guards, search and rescue operations and maritime awareness in the Indo-Pacific.
3. Rare Earth Magnets Development
India’s NFTDC, Indonesia’s PT PERMINAS and Midwest Ltd signed an agreement to develop rare earth magnets. The project supports diversification of global critical mineral supply chains.
4. BrahMos Missile Cooperation
India and Indonesia agreed to cooperate on the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system. The agreement strengthens India’s defence exports and supports indigenous defence manufacturing under the Make in India initiative.
5. Air-to-Air Missile Cooperation
The two countries also signed an agreement on air-to-air missile cooperation, including collaboration involving India’s Astra missile programme. The move is expected to boost India’s defence exports and strengthen bilateral defence technology cooperation.
6. Stainless Steel Manufacturing Joint Venture
Steel Authority of India (SAIL) and Indonesia’s PT Krakatau Steel will establish a stainless-steel slab manufacturing facility in Indonesia. The project aims to increase industrial production and create employment opportunities.
7. Outer Space Cooperation
The space cooperation framework between the two countries has been extended. Both nations will work together in peaceful space exploration, research and technology sharing.
8. Restoration of Prambanan Temple
India will support conservation work at the historic Prambanan Temple Complex in Yogyakarta. The initiative highlights India’s expertise in heritage conservation and cultural diplomacy.
9. Agriculture Cooperation
Both countries signed an agreement to promote sustainable agriculture, agricultural machinery and research. The partnership is expected to benefit farmers and improve food security.
10. Medical Products Regulation
India’s CDSCO and Indonesia’s BPOM signed an agreement on medical product regulation. The MoU encourages knowledge sharing and easier market access for medical products.
11. Disaster Management Cooperation
India’s NDMA and Indonesia’s disaster management agency will work together on disaster preparedness, early warning systems and emergency response.
12. Telecommunications Cooperation
Both countries agreed to cooperate in telecommunications technologies and services. The agreement covers advanced communication technologies and innovation.
13. Research, Technology and Innovation
India and Indonesia signed a new agreement to strengthen collaboration in research, technology and innovation. The partnership also supports startups and innovation ecosystems.
14. Health Workforce Collaboration
The countries signed an implementation arrangement for healthcare workforce cooperation. It includes fellowship programmes and specialised medical training.
15. Liaison Officer at IFC-IOR
Indonesia will deploy a liaison officer at India’s Information Fusion Centre–Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR). The move will improve real-time maritime information sharing.
16. Supply of Wheat Seeds
India will supply 100 tonnes of high-quality DWR-162 wheat seeds to Indonesia. The initiative supports food security and agricultural resilience.
17. Tagore-Dewantara Year
India and Indonesia announced the Tagore-Dewantara Year to celebrate cultural and educational ties. Several academic and cultural programmes will be organised during the year.
18. IIM Bangalore Campus in Indonesia
India announced that IIM Bangalore will establish a branch campus in Indonesia. The move is expected to strengthen higher education cooperation and skill development.
19. ONDC–ION Cooperation
India’s Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) will cooperate with Indonesia’s Indonesia Open Network (ION). The partnership aims to improve digital commerce and public digital infrastructure.
20. Election Commission Cooperation
India’s Election Commission signed an agreement with Indonesia’s General Election Commission. The cooperation focuses on knowledge sharing, election management and technology adoption.
