The book Birds In & Around Mussoorie, authored by IAS officer Sanjay Kumar, was officially released today by Governor of Uttarakhand, Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) at the Welcome Hotel The Savoy, Mussoorie, Uttarakhand.
The event highlighted the rich avian diversity of the Mussoorie region, featuring detailed descriptions and photographs of approximately 150 bird species.
The release was accompanied by a panel discussion that included conservation experts and local historians, who emphasized the importance of eco-tourism and environmental protection.
Governor Singh praised Kumar’s 22 years of research and called for global tourism to explore Uttarakhand’s natural beauty, aligning with this year’s World Tourism Day theme, “Tourism and Peace.”

Kumar shared that his book aims to educate tourists and the younger generation about the area’s unique bird life, while Dr. Dhananjay Mohan announced an upcoming state-level bird festival at Vinog Sanctuary in October. The event also featured the unveiling of a postage stamp titled “Mussoorie: A Paradise for Birds.”
Among the attendees were notable figures from various sectors, reinforcing the community’s commitment to promoting bird-based tourism and the sustainable development of Uttarakhand’s hill villages.
