New Delhi: The Union Government on Monday appointed five Special Directors to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), completing all sanctioned top-level positions in the agency.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the names of Viplav Kumar Choudhry (1997-batch IPS, AGMUT cadre), and four IRS officers – T Sankar (2003), N Padmanaban (2005), Rajnish Dev Barman (1999), and Manu Tentiwal (2003), all from the Income Tax cadre.
These officers will lead key ED regional offices in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, and special units at the Delhi headquarters. Until now, the ED had only three officers at this rank.
Newly Appointed Special Directors in ED:
- Viplav Kumar Chaudhary (IPS: 1997: AGMUT cadre)
- Manu Tentiwal (IRS-IT: 2003 batch)
- T Sankar (IRS-IT: 2003 batch)
- N Padmanabhan (IRS-IT: 2005 batch)
- Rajnish Deb Burman (IRS-IT: 1999 batch)
With these appointments, the ED’s eight sanctioned Special Director posts are now fully staffed. The Special Directors (SDs) report directly to the ED Director, Rahul Navin (1993-batch IRS), and oversee investigations under laws like the PMLA, FEOA, and FEMA.
The Enforcement Directorate enforces the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act (FEOA), and the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
