Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel distributed appointment letters to 449 newly appointed Unarmed Police Sub Inspectors (PSIs) in the Gujarat Police Force at a ceremony held in Gandhinagar on July 8, 2026.
Addressing the newly recruited officers, the Chief Minister urged them to serve citizens with dedication, honesty and a strong sense of public responsibility while following the principles of “Nagrik Devo Bhava” and “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.”
The appointment of the new PSIs is aimed at further strengthening law and order and improving public safety across Gujarat.
CM Bhupendra Patel Highlights Police Role in Gujarat’s Growth
The Chief Minister said that peace and security are essential foundations for development. He stated that Gujarat’s emergence as a national role model and a global destination for investment, trade and industries has been supported by the strong role of the police force in maintaining law and order.
He told the newly appointed officers that joining the police force comes with a major responsibility to serve society in a way that brings pride to their families, communities and the nation.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the presence of police officers gives citizens confidence that justice and security will be protected.
He also encouraged the new officers to maintain the reputation of the Gujarat Police through discipline, integrity and professional conduct.

Government Will Support Honest and Dedicated Police Personnel
CM Bhupendra Patel said that the government always stands with officers who perform their duties with commitment and honesty.
He appreciated the Gujarat Police Recruitment Board for conducting a transparent recruitment process and advised the newly appointed PSIs to carry out their responsibilities with discipline and dedication.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that these officers would play an important role in achieving the vision of Viksit Gujarat and Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Harsh Sanghavi Announces 50,000 Police Recruitments by 2033
Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi welcomed the newly appointed PSIs and highlighted the expanding strength of the Gujarat Police.
He announced that approximately 50,000 new recruitments will be carried out in the Police Department by 2033 through direct recruitment.
He also informed that:
- A total of 54,509 police personnel have been recruited during the last ten years.
- Around 15,653 women personnel have joined the Gujarat Police in the last five years, reflecting significant progress in women empowerment.
- Nearly one lakh youth have joined the police force since 2008.
- Recruitment for around 13,500 posts is currently underway.
Police Remain First Responders During Crises
Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi said that the role of police extends beyond crime prevention. During major challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters, police personnel have always stood at the forefront to protect citizens.
He said police officers must ensure that those who violate the law are dealt with strictly, while also maintaining public trust.
He added that strict action would be taken against any officer misusing legal authority, and the government remains committed to transparent and corruption-free governance.
Gujarat Opens Police Grounds for Competitive Exam Aspirants
In a major decision to support candidates preparing for police recruitment and other competitive examinations, the Home Department has opened grounds at all District Police Headquarters across Gujarat for physical test practice.
The initiative aims to help economically weaker and middle-class candidates by reducing the need for expensive private coaching facilities.
DGP Highlights Transparent Police Recruitment Process
G. S. Malik said that the Gujarat government has successfully completed transparent recruitment of 54,509 personnel across different police cadres, from constables to Police Sub Inspectors, during the last decade.
He added that recruitment for another 13,591 posts during 2026-27 is progressing rapidly.
The DGP congratulated the newly appointed PSIs and their families, expressing confidence that their education, technological skills and commitment would further strengthen the Gujarat Police.
He also praised the Gujarat Police Recruitment Board Chairperson Neerja Gotru for completing the recruitment process in a fair and transparent manner.
Over 4.60 Lakh Candidates Applied for PSI Recruitment
Gujarat Police Recruitment Board Chairperson Dr. Neerja Gotru said that the latest recruitment drive was the first successful batch after the formation of the Gujarat Police Recruitment Board in March 2024.
She informed that:
- More than 4.60 lakh candidates registered for 472 Unarmed PSI posts announced during 2024-25.
- The final selection was completed through physical tests, written examinations, document verification and medical examinations.
She encouraged the newly appointed officers to continue serving citizens with dedication and integrity.
New Criminal Law Training Books and Digital Module Launched
During the event, the Chief Minister and other dignitaries released new criminal law publications and training materials prepared for police personnel.
The released training books include:
- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023
- Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023
- Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023
- Forensic Science, Criminology and Community Policing
- Central and State Police Organisation, Human Behaviour and Human Rights
An in-house e-module developed by the Police Department was also launched to enhance digital learning and training among police officers.
Gujarat Police Strengthening Security and Modern Law Enforcement
The appointment of 449 new Unarmed Police Sub Inspectors marks another step towards strengthening Gujarat’s policing system. With a focus on transparency, technology, training and public service, the state government aims to build a more efficient and citizen-friendly police force.
The event was attended by senior officials from the Home Department and Police Department, including Gandhinagar Mayor Miraben Patel, Ahmedabad Mayor Hiteshbhai Barot, Principal Secretary Home Sanjeev Kumar, Inspector General of Police (Administration) Gagandeep Gambhir and other senior officers.
