Gandinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has announced a major initiative to strengthen civic infrastructure in the state’s nine newly established Municipal Corporations by ensuring timely development of essential public facilities.
Under the new decision, the newly formed Municipal Corporations of Vapi, Mehsana, Porbandar, Morbi, Gandhidham, Nadiad, Anand, Navsari and Surendranagar will receive government land free of cost for five years for developing important public utility projects.
The move aims to accelerate urban development and ensure that citizens in these expanding urban areas receive improved civic services.
Nine New Municipal Corporations to Receive Free Government Land Support
The Gujarat government has extended benefits earlier available to Municipalities to the newly upgraded Municipal Corporations.
These corporations were earlier Class “A” Municipalities and have recently been converted into Municipal Corporations with expanded jurisdictions covering larger surrounding areas.
Recognising the need for rapid infrastructure development during this transition phase, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has directed officials to simplify the land allotment process at the district level.
11 Essential Public Utility Projects Identified for Development
The government land allocation will support the creation of several important civic facilities required for efficient urban management.
The major projects include:
- Nagar Seva Sadan (Municipal office buildings)
- Fire Stations
- Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs)
- Water Treatment Plants (WTPs)
- Underground drainage systems
- Pumping stations
- Water supply projects
- Solid and liquid waste management plants
- Storm water drainage systems
- Balwadi (Anganwadi) centres
- Town Halls, Community Halls and Convention Centres
These facilities will help improve public services and enhance the quality of life for residents.
Focus on Faster Urban Development and Better Citizen Services
The decision is aimed at speeding up the establishment of critical infrastructure in the nine new Municipal Corporations.
The development of facilities such as fire stations, water treatment plants, waste management units, drainage systems and public utility centres will help cities manage their growing population and expanding boundaries more effectively.
The initiative is expected to strengthen urban governance and provide citizens with improved civic amenities.
Gujarat Government Pushes Infrastructure Growth in Emerging Urban Centres
With the expansion of Municipal Corporation areas, the Gujarat government is focusing on planned urban development and modern civic facilities.
The free land allocation policy is expected to remove delays in infrastructure creation and support the transformation of these newly formed corporations into well-equipped urban centres.
Through this initiative, the state government aims to promote sustainable urban growth and ensure efficient delivery of essential services to citizens.
