Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday distributed appointment letters to 3,084 drivers and 1,658 helpers selected for the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC), giving a major boost to the state’s public transportation sector. The initiative aims to strengthen connectivity and improve service delivery across Gujarat.

Drivers Called Guardians of Modern Transport Network

Addressing the new recruits, CM Patel described GSRTC drivers as the “guardians of the state’s modern transport network” and emphasized their crucial role in ensuring safe, punctual, and reliable travel for citizens. He said that the government’s image reflects the discipline and conduct of its bus drivers and helpers, and highlighted the importance of professionalism, physical fitness, and mental balance while on duty.

He further noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, even the remotest regions of the country have been connected through roads, electricity, water supply, healthcare, and bus services, and Gujarat has modernized its transport fleet to align with these developments.

Launch of ‘Jan Sarathi Driving School’

On the occasion, the Chief Minister inaugurated a new initiative, the ‘Jan Sarathi Driving School’, aimed at providing professional training for GSRTC drivers, ensuring higher skill levels and road safety standards.

Deputy CM Harsh Sanghvi Addresses Event

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi also addressed the gathering, appreciating the tireless efforts of government employees working 24/7 in essential services such as transportation, police, fire services, and electricity. He announced that the state aims to increase daily GSRTC ridership from the current 27 lakh passengers to 30 lakh by 2027, reflecting the government’s focus on expanding public transport usage.

Focus on Efficient Public Transport

With the appointment of over 4,700 new employees, the launch of professional driver training, and a modernized fleet, the Gujarat government is taking major steps to enhance the safety, efficiency, and reliability of its public transportation system.
