Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has approved ₹330 crore for the construction, repair, and infrastructure development of 108 government secondary and higher secondary schools for the financial year 2026–27.

The decision aims to strengthen school infrastructure and improve access to quality education across both tribal and non-tribal regions of the state.

The allocation includes:

  • ₹23 crore for compound walls in 76 schools

  • ₹31.68 crore for compound walls in 32 schools
  • ₹4.32 crore for repair works in 6 schools

Additionally, ₹40 crore has been sanctioned under a special component scheme for constructing 22 schools in focused development areas.

Schools to Get Own Buildings After Years of Temporary Arrangements

Officials said that 108 schools currently functioning from primary school buildings or other temporary facilities will soon have dedicated infrastructure.

Construction is expected to be completed within one year, after which schools will shift to their new premises.

Among these, 69 schools are in non-tribal areas, including 14 in Ahmedabad district.

Ahmedabad and Other Districts to Benefit

Ahmedabad, Banaskantha, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, and Kutch are among the key districts benefiting from the project.

In Ahmedabad alone:

  • 22 schools were operating from alternative buildings
  • Land has been allotted for 15 schools
  • Construction has been approved for 14 schools
  • Total allocation: ₹44.80 crore

Infrastructure Push in Tribal and Special Focus Areas

The government has also prioritized infrastructure development worth:

  • ₹99.2 crore in tribal areas
  • ₹70.4 crore in special focus regions

An average cost of ₹3.2 crore per school has been approved for selected projects.

Strict Quality and Safety Guidelines for Construction

Officials confirmed that all construction work must follow Public Works Department (PWD) standards and safety norms set by the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA). Projects must be completed within the stipulated timeline, failing which approvals may be withdrawn.

The ₹330 crore investment marks a significant step toward strengthening Gujarat’s school education infrastructure. With new buildings, improved facilities, and strict quality standards, the initiative aims to enhance learning environments and ensure long-term educational development across the state.
