Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has launched 51 two-wheeler mobile health units and flagged off nine new mobile health vans aimed at improving healthcare access in the state’s most remote tribal and hard-to-reach regions. The initiative was inaugurated in Gandhinagar in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and Health Minister Pradyuman Vaja.
The new fleet will operate across 14 districts of Gujarat, strengthening doorstep delivery of primary healthcare services.
Mission to Strengthen Healthcare in Tribal and Remote Regions
The initiative, launched by the state’s Health and Family Welfare Department, aims to ensure that primary healthcare services reach citizens at their doorstep, especially in tribal and geographically isolated areas.
According to the government, the program supports a broader vision aligned with national healthcare goals and the approach advocated under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on equitable access to quality healthcare.

Designed for Difficult Terrain and Remote Access
The 51 two-wheeler mobile health units have been specially designed for regions where four-wheeler ambulances or medical vans cannot operate due to:
- Hilly or difficult terrain
- Poor road connectivity
- Geographic isolation
These units will be used for both emergency response and routine healthcare delivery, ensuring continuous medical outreach in underserved areas.
Equipped with Essential Medical Tools and Digital Health Technology
Each mobile health unit is equipped with a comprehensive medical kit, including essential medicines and diagnostic tools.
Key equipment includes:
- Digital blood pressure monitor
- Glucometer
- Clinical thermometer
- Hemoglobin meter
- Stethoscope
- Knee hammer
- Needle cutter
- Instrument tray
- Torch
The system is also integrated with digital data-entry capabilities, enabling preventive healthcare monitoring and real-time reporting through a centralized dashboard.
GPS-Enabled Monitoring and Real-Time Supervision
The entire fleet is supported by GPS-based real-time tracking, allowing authorities to monitor service delivery across districts.
The system is connected to the Chief Minister’s dashboard, enabling:
- Centralized monitoring of health services
- Digital reporting by medical officers
- IEC (Information, Education & Communication) activity tracking
- Multi-level supervision at taluka, district, and state levels
This ensures transparency, efficiency, and improved coordination in healthcare delivery.
Focus on Maternal and Child Healthcare
A key focus of the initiative is improving maternal and child health outcomes in tribal and rural communities.
Services will include:
- Regular health check-ups for pregnant women
- Newborn and child health monitoring
- Local counselling and treatment services
- Timely referral to government hospitals when needed
Officials said the initiative will help reduce delays in treatment and improve overall healthcare access.
Early Diagnosis and Preventive Healthcare Services
The mobile units will support early detection of diseases by conducting primary screenings for:
- Blood pressure
- Hemoglobin levels
- Blood sugar
- Malaria
- Urinary conditions
Patients requiring advanced treatment will be referred immediately to the nearest government health facility for specialized care.
Awareness Campaigns for Community Health
The program also includes extensive health awareness initiatives covering:
- Anemia and nutrition
- Adolescent health
- Family welfare
- HIV/AIDS awareness
- Tobacco-related diseases
- Infectious and non-communicable diseases
Special focus will be given to women and adolescent girls, ensuring awareness and guidance on preventive healthcare and government health schemes.
Expected Impact on Rural Healthcare Access
The Gujarat government said the initiative is expected to significantly improve healthcare outcomes by:
