Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has increased financial assistance for the development and levelling of free residential plots allotted to rural homeless families across the state. The decision aims to make it easier for beneficiaries to construct permanent houses by providing additional support for land preparation and infrastructure development.
The move, announced under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, aligns with the vision of providing housing for all and strengthening rural housing development.
Plot Development Assistance Increased Five Times
The Gujarat government has significantly enhanced the financial support provided for developing free residential plots given to rural homeless families.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the assistance amount per plot has been increased:
- Earlier assistance: ₹1,000 per plot
- New assistance: ₹5,000 per plot
This five-fold increase will help families prepare their plots before beginning house construction.
Land Levelling Support Increased for Difficult Rural Areas
The government has also increased financial assistance for levelling uneven land identified for free residential plots in villages.
The revised assistance includes:
- Earlier support: ₹50,000 per hectare
- New support: ₹2 lakh per hectare
The four-fold increase will particularly benefit villages where rocky, uneven or difficult terrain makes house construction challenging.
Decision to Speed Up Rural Housing Development
The Gujarat government said the increased assistance will accelerate rural housing development and provide stronger financial support to homeless families.
The initiative is expected to help beneficiaries by:
- Reducing the cost of land development.
- Making plots ready for construction.
- Helping families build permanent houses faster.
- Improving living conditions in rural areas.
The Rural Housing, Panchayat and Rural Development Department issued a proposal on 17 July to increase the assistance amount for rural homeless families.
Focus on Housing for Rural Homeless Families
The enhanced financial support is aimed at ensuring that lack of resources does not delay house construction for eligible families.
The government believes that preparing land before construction is a major challenge in many villages, especially where plots are located on uneven terrain.
With increased assistance, beneficiaries will receive greater financial support for:
- Land levelling.
- Plot development.
- Beginning construction of their own homes.
Support Under Housing-for-All Vision
The Gujarat government stated that the initiative supports the broader goal of providing housing facilities to every eligible family.
By increasing assistance for free residential plots, the state aims to strengthen rural infrastructure, improve housing access and help more families move towards secure and permanent homes.
