In a significant move towards promoting green energy and sustainable transport, the Himachal Pradesh government on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two companies to enhance facilities across five selected green corridors in the state. The MoU was signed by Transport Department Director DC Negi on behalf of the state government, with Rahul Soni representing EVI Technology and Avinash Sharma representing Jio-bp. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was present during the signing ceremony, which marks a major step in the state’s push toward green energy.
Under the agreement, Jio-bp will develop the Mandi-Jogindernagar-Pathankot and Kiratpur-Manali-Kelang corridors, while EVI Technology will work on the Parwanoo-Una-Sansarpur-Terrace-Nurpur and Parwanoo-Shimla-Recongpeo-Losar corridors. The work on these corridors is expected to be completed within a year. Additionally, Electroweb Company will develop the Shimla-Hamirpur-Chamba Green Corridors.
As part of the project, the companies will establish electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, way-side amenities, and supermarkets at 41 strategic locations along these green corridors. The project will also include the construction of public amenities such as toilets and restaurants, making these locations more accessible and convenient for travelers. The companies will pay an annual lease fee of Rs 75 lakh to the state government for utilizing these spaces.
Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized that the establishment of these green corridors is a crucial part of the state’s goal to become a Green Energy State by 2026. He noted that the initiative would significantly reduce carbon emissions, helping to create a cleaner and more sustainable environment for future generations. The state government is also working to transition the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) fleet to electric buses in a phased manner, with the aim of reducing the state’s carbon footprint.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri further highlighted the state’s commitment to environmental preservation, announcing plans to procure 350 e-buses to support the transition. He also noted that the Himachal Pradesh Transport Department became the first in the country to operate an entirely electric vehicle fleet.
The development of these green corridors is expected to encourage private vehicle owners to switch to electric vehicles, boosting the adoption of green transport in the state. This initiative not only supports the state’s environmental goals but also helps in promoting sustainable mobility for the future.
