Dr. Raghav Langer, a 2009-batch IAS officer (Uttarakhand cadre), has been appointed as the Secretary of the National Medical Commission (NMC) at the Joint Secretary (JS) level under the Department of Health and Family Welfare. His tenure will last until October 3, 2025, or until further orders, whichever comes first.

- The appointment is part of Dr. Langer’s seven-year central deputation period, which includes his previous postings in the central government.
- He is among 35 IAS officers who have been elevated to the Joint Secretary or equivalent level with Level 14 pay matrix.
- He replaces Ms. Sandhya Bhullar (2003-batch Gujarat cadre IAS officer) in this position.

- Education: An alumnus of Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu.
- Previous Roles:Director, Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation (Ministry of Jal Shakti).
- Divisional Commissioner, Jammu.
- Secretary, Planning Department, Jammu & Kashmir.
- District Commissioner of Kathua and Pulwama – Played a crucial role in COVID-19 mitigation efforts, earning widespread recognition.
The NMC, established in 2020, is the apex regulatory body for medical education, professionals, institutes, and research in India, replacing the Medical Council of India (MCI). It is responsible for:
- Registering medical professionals and institutions.
- Assessing and grading medical colleges.
- Ensuring quality healthcare standards.
This appointment further strengthens the leadership of the NMC, as Dr. Langer brings his administrative expertise and experience in handling critical health and planning sectors.
