Jamshedpur: Two Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officers of the 2010 batch visited Jamshedpur on Wednesday as part of their Jharkhand tour under the Mid-Career Training Programme (MCP-II). During the visit, the officers were briefed on East Singhbhum’s administrative framework, industrial development, governance initiatives and welfare programmes.

The visiting officers—Sushil Prasad (IFS:2010) and Md. Shahid Alam (IFS:2010)—were received by Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan and Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Ehtesham Waqarib.

Overview of East Singhbhum

During the interaction, Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan presented a comprehensive overview of East Singhbhum district, highlighting its geographical importance, administrative structure, natural resources and rich cultural heritage.

He also outlined Jamshedpur’s status as one of India’s leading industrial cities and explained the district’s contribution to the country’s manufacturing and economic landscape.

Focus on Governance and Development

The visiting officers were briefed on several key initiatives undertaken by the district administration, including:

  • Major development projects
  • Industrial expansion initiatives
  • Public welfare schemes
  • Innovative governance practices
  • Administrative reforms aimed at improving public service delivery

The interaction provided the officers with insights into how district administration functions in an industrially significant region while balancing urban development, infrastructure expansion and citizen-centric governance.

Part of Mid-Career Training Programme

The visit formed part of the Mid-Career Training Programme (MCP-II) for Indian Foreign Service officers. The programme is designed to expose diplomats to governance models, developmental initiatives and administrative best practices across different states, helping them gain a deeper understanding of India’s governance ecosystem.

The Jharkhand visit offered the officers an opportunity to study district-level administration, industrial development and public policy implementation before returning to their diplomatic assignments.
