Indian, US Navies to Begin EOD Exercise in Kochi, Focus on Interoperability and Joint Operations

The eighth edition of the India-US Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal exercise will be held in Kochi from August 10 to 14, focusing on interoperability and specialised maritime operations.

New Delhi: The Indian Navy-US Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Exercise 2026 is scheduled to begin at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi on August 10. The five-day bilateral exercise will continue until August 14 and will bring together specialist diving and EOD teams of the two navies.

The exercise aims to enhance interoperability and professional cooperation between the specialist teams of the Indian Navy and US Navy.

Five-Day Exercise to Include Practical Training

The programme will feature a combination of knowledge-sharing sessions and practical activities. Key components include:

  • Subject Matter Expert Exchanges (SMEEs)
  • Cross-training
  • Equipment demonstrations
  • Scenario-based practical exercises

The engagement will provide the participating personnel with an opportunity to exchange contemporary EOD methodologies, emerging technologies and best practices.

It will also facilitate discussions on the capabilities, operational concepts and employment philosophies of the two navies.

Focus on EOD Capabilities and Operational Cooperation

The exercise is designed to promote collaborative learning and operational synergy between the participating personnel.

Through the training and exchanges, personnel from both navies will refine procedures, enhance mutual understanding and strengthen their ability to respond to complex and evolving EOD challenges.

Eighth Edition of Specialised Bilateral Exercise

The Indian Navy and US Navy have been conducting joint Salvage and EOD exercises since 2005.

The 2026 engagement will be the eighth edition of the specialised bilateral training exercise. According to the Ministry of Defence, the exercise reflects the continued commitment of both navies to enhancing interoperability, sharing operational expertise and strengthening cooperation in specialised maritime operations.
