New Delhi: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IndianOil) has flagged off the maiden rake of Xtreme Weather Grade (XWG) High Speed Diesel (HSD) from its Panipat Marketing Complex for the Indian Army’s Eastern Command. The move expands the supply of specialised diesel to India’s eastern frontier and strengthens IndianOil’s support for military operations in extreme cold and high-altitude conditions.
IndianOil Expands XWG Diesel Supply to Eastern Frontier
The maiden dispatch marks an expansion of IndianOil’s XWG HSD supply network, which now covers both the northern and eastern frontiers.
IndianOil said it has become the first public sector undertaking (PSU) to position XWG diesel in the eastern region, with a dedicated supply chain to meet the requirements of the Indian Army.
The specialised fuel is intended to support Army vehicles and equipment operating in challenging climatic and geographical conditions.

XWG HSD Designed for Extreme Cold and High Altitudes
IndianOil’s Xtreme Weather Grade HSD was launched in July 2026 by the Chief of Army Staff.
The specialised diesel has been developed to meet the operational requirements of Army vehicles and equipment deployed in extreme cold and high-altitude areas.
According to IndianOil, XWG HSD offers enhanced low-temperature performance, helping ensure reliable operation in challenging weather and terrain.
With the latest dispatch, the specialised fuel will support Army operations in areas including Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, extending its availability beyond the northern high-altitude region.

The maiden rake was flagged off by Lt Gen Mukesh Chadha, AVSM, SM, VSM, Director General Supplies & Transport and Senior Colonel Commandant, IHQ of MoD (Army).

Lt Gen Mukesh Chadha highlighted the potential of XWG HSD to strengthen operational preparedness in high-altitude and extreme-weather areas.
He also emphasised the importance of extending the specialised fuel to the eastern frontier, particularly for operations in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.
A predictable, scalable and responsive supply chain remains important for ensuring consistent fuel availability for military operations in difficult terrain and weather conditions.
IndianOil Focuses on Indigenous Specialised Fuels
K. John Prasad said dependable fuel performance is critical for the Army’s operational mobility in demanding terrains.
He said the extension of XWG HSD to the Eastern Command strengthens IndianOil’s ability to support the Armed Forces across another strategically important geography.
The initiative also reflects IndianOil’s focus on developing indigenous, fit-for-purpose energy solutions for specialised operational requirements.
IndianOil has previously developed specialised fuels for the Armed Forces, including:
- Winter Grade Diesel – introduced in 2019
- All Weather Grade HSD – introduced in 2022
- Low Sulphur Low Aromatic Superior Kerosene Oil – introduced in 2022
These products have been developed to address the demanding climatic and terrain conditions faced by the Armed Forces.
