IPS Ramit Sharma Assigned High-Profile Investigation After Atiq Ahmed Success

The responsibility of leading this critical investigation has been assigned to Mr. Ramit Sharma, IPS, Additional Director General (ADG) of the Bareilly Zone. Mr. Sharma previously gained prominence for his decisive action in dismantling the stronghold of mafia leader Atiq Ahmed, including the encounter of Ahmed’s son, Asad, and other accused in the high-profile Umesh Pal murder case. Known for his strategic and fearless policing, Mr. Sharma is tasked with bringing the truth about Rishikant Shukla’s illegal empire to light.

Rishikant Shukla’s Benami Property Empire Exposed

Shukla’s modus operandi involved pressuring builders, businessmen, and wealthy individuals to transfer property rights, often under the threat of police action. Complaints led to an SIT investigation, which confirmed his extensive collusion with Mr. Akhilesh Dubey in creating benami properties. Following the verification of these allegations, Shukla was promptly suspended, and the ongoing investigation aims to recover the misappropriated assets and ensure accountability.

About IPS Ramit Sharma: Technology, Strategy, and Governance in Policing

Mr. Ramit Sharma, a 1999-batch IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, is an engineering graduate from IIT Kanpur and known for his innovative approach to law enforcement. During his career, he has served as Superintendent of Police in multiple districts, Inspector General of the Prayagraj Range, the first Police Commissioner of Prayagraj, and currently as ADG of the Bareilly Zone.

A pioneer in modern policing, Mr. Sharma has implemented technology-driven initiatives, including drone surveillance, digital monitoring labs, and AI-enabled tools like “Jarvis,” designed to enhance operational efficiency and public safety. He also introduced “Operation Walk-Through,” a community policing initiative aimed at fostering citizen-police collaboration. In January 2025, he received the President’s Distinguished Service Medal for his exemplary service.
