Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda Police have launched a QR-based Smart Auto System under the flagship initiative “Operation Netra” to improve passenger safety, enhance transparency in public transport, and enable faster emergency response across the district.

The system has been introduced to digitally monitor registered auto-rickshaws and strengthen accountability within the local transport network.

QR Code System Integrated in Auto-Rickshaws

Under the initiative lead by SP Mr. Raghavendra Gondola, all registered auto-rickshaws will be equipped with QR code stickers and in-vehicle information sheets.

These will display key details such as the driver’s identity, vehicle registration number, driving licence information, and emergency contact numbers, making essential information easily accessible to passengers.

Passenger Safety Features Through QR Scanning

Passengers can scan the QR code using their smartphones to access multiple safety and support features, including:

  • Requesting live tracking assistance from police
  • Sharing trip details with family members
  • Reporting issues such as overcharging or misconduct
  • Complaining about rash driving or route deviations
  • Locating nearby police stations and emergency contacts

The system is designed to provide quick response support in case of emergencies.

Focus on Transparency and Emergency Response

Officials said the QR-based Smart Auto System aims to improve transparency in the public transport system while ensuring quick communication between passengers and police in case of incidents.

The initiative also seeks to reduce complaints related to fare disputes, unsafe driving, and passenger harassment.

Wide Participation from Transport Community

The launch event was attended by senior district officials, police officers, industry representatives, and over 250 participants, including more than 150 auto-rickshaw drivers.

The initiative has received support from stakeholders in the transport ecosystem as a step toward safer and more accountable urban mobility in Jharsuguda.

Step Towards Smart and Safe Public Transport

Police officials stated that “Operation Netra” is a progressive move toward digitising public transport safety mechanisms.

The QR-based Smart Auto System is expected to gradually expand across the district, strengthening passenger trust and improving overall safety standards in local transport services.
