Mumbai: Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) reported a 20% year-on-year (YoY) increase in net profit to ₹12,076 crore for the second quarter ended September 2026 (Q2 FY27), compared with ₹10,053 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.

The state-run life insurer also recorded strong growth in total income, which rose to ₹2,62,739 crore during the quarter. The growth was supported by higher premium collections, particularly a significant increase in single premium income.

LIC’s net premium income increased by 16.2% to ₹1,47,018 crore, reflecting improved premium collection during the reporting period.

LIC Q2 FY27 Results: Net Premium Income Rises 16.2%

LIC’s net premium income stood at ₹1,47,018 crore in Q2 FY27, registering a 16.2% increase compared with the year-ago period.

The growth was primarily driven by a sharp rise in single premium collections. Single premium income jumped 35%, indicating higher contributions from policies involving one-time lump-sum payments.

Meanwhile, renewal premium income maintained its positive momentum, increasing 5.2% to ₹68,375 crore during the quarter. Renewal premiums represent payments made by existing policyholders to continue their insurance coverage.

First-Year Premium Income Declines 3.7%

Despite the growth in overall premium collections, LIC reported a decline in first-year premium income during the second quarter.

First-year premium income fell 3.7% to ₹10,432 crore. This decline indicates some moderation in new policy premium collections, particularly in regular premium business.

First-year premium income is an important indicator of new business generation, as it reflects premiums collected from newly issued policies. Its performance will remain an important area to monitor in the coming quarters.

LIC Reports Improvement in Asset Quality

LIC also reported an improvement in its asset quality during Q2 FY27.

The insurer’s Gross Non-Performing Asset (GNPA) ratio improved to 1.16%, compared with 1.21% in the previous quarter. The decline indicates a reduction in the proportion of non-performing assets in its investment portfolio.

The improvement in the GNPA ratio, alongside higher profitability and premium collections, reflects positive developments in LIC’s financial performance during the quarter.

LIC Q2 FY27 Performance: Key Highlights

The major financial highlights for the quarter ended September 2026 are:

  • Net Profit: ₹12,076 crore, up 20% YoY.
  • Total Income: ₹2,62,739 crore.
  • Net Premium Income: ₹1,47,018 crore, up 16.2%.
  • Single Premium Income: Increased 35%.
  • Renewal Premium Income: ₹68,375 crore, up 5.2%.
  • First-Year Premium Income: ₹10,432 crore, down 3.7%.
  • Gross NPA Ratio: Improved to 1.16% from 1.21% in the previous quarter.

Overall, LIC’s Q2 FY27 performance was supported by higher net profit and strong premium income growth. However, the decline in first-year premium income remains a key factor to watch as the insurer works to sustain new business growth.
