The Bhagwant Mann led Punjab government has appointed 1992 batch IAS officer KAP Sinha as the new chief secretary, replacing Anurag Verma, an IAS officer of 1993 batch. This announcement was made on Wednesday, marking a significant shift in the state’s administrative leadership.
KAP Sinha, a seasoned IAS officer from the Punjab cadre, will also take on additional responsibilities as principal secretary for personnel, vigilance, and general administration. Known for his close ties to the AAP leadership in New Delhi, Sinha is seen as a key player in the party’s governance strategy.
This appointment makes Sinha the 43rd chief secretary of Punjab. He was previously in contention for the role in 2023 when Verma, a 1993-batch IAS officer, was appointed.
Before stepping into the chief secretary role, Sinha served as special chief secretary for various departments, including revenue, rehabilitation, disaster management, agriculture, and farmers’ welfare, as well as horticulture and soil and water conservation.
Anurag Verma will now assume the responsibilities that Sinha held prior to his new appointment, ensuring continuity in the state’s administrative functions.
