Mining Veteran S Vijayakumar Promoted to Executive Director at NLC India, Effective July 1 – Know More About Him

With 30+ Years of Mining Expertise, Mr Vijaykumar to Lead Strategic Projects as Part of Leadership Expansion.

Chennai: NLC India Limited, a Navratna Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Coal, has announced the promotion of Mr S Vijayakumar as Executive Director (Senior Management Personnel), effective July 1, 2025. The appointment has been made in accordance with Regulation 30 of SEBI (LODR) Regulations, 2015, with disclosures filed to BSE and NSE.

This elevation recognizes Vijayakumar’s distinguished leadership in mining operations and project management, particularly in large-scale lignite mining projects such as Barsingsar and Talabira.

Three Decades of Diverse Mining Experience
With over 30 years of experience in both open-pit and underground mining operations, Vijayakumar brings deep operational and regulatory expertise. He began his career with South Eastern Coalfields Limited and has held several senior roles since joining NLC India in 2016.

He currently heads the Barsingsar Project, a major lignite mining and power generation operation in Rajasthan, where he has been instrumental in driving performance and resource optimization.

Academic and Professional Excellence
Mr Vijayakumar holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering from Anna University, Tamil Nadu. He has also obtained:

  • 1st Class Mine Manager Competency (DGMS – Ministry of Labour & Employment)
  • MBA in Human Resource Management (IGNOU)
  • Certificate in Project Management (IIT Roorkee)

These qualifications, along with his practical leadership, have enabled him to successfully navigate complex mining operations and contribute to strategic planning at NLC India.

NLC India’s Focus on Leadership Development
In a company statement, NLC India emphasized that the promotion of Vijayakumar aligns with its ongoing commitment to grooming internal talent, strengthening leadership, and meeting India’s growing energy and infrastructure demands.

The promotion has been officially recorded through stock exchange filings, with the executive profile included in Annexure-I, per SEBI Circular No. SEBI/HO/CFD/CFD-PoD-1/P/CIR/2023/123, dated July 13, 2023.
