Bhopal/Indore: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav launched a massive environmental campaign in Indore under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (One Tree in Mother’s Name) initiative, marking the beginning of an ambitious drive to plant 21 lakh saplings and establish 51,000 rainwater harvesting units across the district.
The campaign was inaugurated at the Border Security Force (BSF) campus in Budhaniya village, Indore, where the Chief Minister planted an orange sapling in memory of his late mother, Smt. Leela Bai Yadav.
‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Is a Mission for Life, Says CM
Addressing the gathering, CM Mohan Yadav said that nature is the source of life and should be worshipped as a divine force.
He described trees as the foundation of human life and the true adornment of the Earth, adding that they absorb negative energy and provide oxygen, the “life-giving air” essential for survival.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is not merely a government programme but a people’s movement to ensure a sustainable future.
According to him, the initiative is focused on protecting the four essential pillars of the ecosystem—water, forests, land, and wildlife.

21 Lakh Trees and 51,000 Rainwater Harvesting Units Planned
As part of the campaign, Indore has set a target of:
- 21 lakh tree plantations
- 51,000 rainwater harvesting units
The state government said that the initiative combines environmental conservation with water security to create a sustainable ecological model.
Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav informed that around 8,500 rainwater harvesting units have already been constructed, and work is progressing rapidly toward achieving the target of 51,000 units.
Plantation Drive Focuses on Large Fruit-Bearing Trees
CM Mohan Yadav said the plantation campaign will include 8 to 10-foot-tall saplings, enabling faster growth and early fruit production.
He also announced that more than one lakh forest species saplings will be planted over the next three days as part of the Amrit Harit Mahotsav 2026.
The Chief Minister congratulated the people of Indore for taking the pledge to plant 21 lakh trees, describing the campaign as a major step toward environmental sustainability.
Financial Incentives Announced for Environmental and Security Contributions
During the programme, the Chief Minister announced financial incentives to encourage environmental conservation and recognize national service.
He declared:
- ₹2 lakh for the social organisation Prithvi Foundation for its contribution to plantation and water conservation.
- ₹2 lakh each for two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel who made significant contributions to anti-Naxal operations in the state.
The awards were presented as a mark of appreciation for their outstanding service.

Indore Emerging as a Model for Water Conservation
CM Mohan Yadav praised Indore for becoming a national example in water conservation.
He recalled the legacy of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, who built wells and stepwells during her reign to promote sustainable water management.
Inspired by this heritage, the Madhya Pradesh government has launched extensive campaigns for cleaning and restoring rivers, ponds, wells, and traditional water bodies.
The Chief Minister said these efforts have helped Madhya Pradesh emerge as one of the leading states in water conservation.
Climate Change Makes Plantation More Important Than Ever
Referring to climate-related challenges such as El Niño, CM Mohan Yadav stressed that large-scale plantation is one of the most effective ways to maintain ecological balance.
He said increasing green cover is essential to combat climate change, improve air quality, and secure water resources for future generations.
The Chief Minister noted that the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign has entered its third year, with public participation increasing significantly every year.
Public Participation Driving Environmental Movement
Senior BJP leader and State President Hemant Khandelwal praised Indore’s commitment to environmental conservation, saying the campaign has become a landmark initiative.
Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said Madhya Pradesh has been blessed with rich natural resources, and the plantation drive launched on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal has now evolved into a nationwide people’s movement.
Several ministers, public representatives, BSF officials, social organisations, religious groups, and volunteers participated in the programme, reaffirming their commitment to protecting the environment.
Campaign Aims to Strengthen Environmental Sustainability in Madhya Pradesh
The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign is expected to significantly improve green cover, strengthen water conservation efforts, and encourage community participation in environmental protection. By combining mass plantation with rainwater harvesting, the Madhya Pradesh government aims to create a long-term model for sustainable development while ensuring cleaner air, better water availability, and a healthier ecosystem for future generations.
