Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has directed officials to intensify efforts to promote solar pump usage among farmers and ensure timely execution of renewable energy schemes. Chairing a review meeting of the New and Renewable Energy Department at the state Secretariat, he emphasized that farmers must be made energy producers to improve agricultural productivity and rural incomes.
The Chief Minister reiterated that providing uninterrupted and affordable electricity to farmers remains a top priority of the state government.
Farmers to Be Encouraged for Solar Pump Adoption
Dr. Yadav instructed officials to actively promote solar pump installations and provide full support and guidance to farmers willing to adopt solar energy.
He said farmers connected to solar energy would benefit from reduced electricity costs, improved production capacity, and increased contribution to the state’s overall development. He further stressed integrating farmers into green energy production to make them self-reliant in energy generation.

Target of Over 2 Lakh Solar Pumps by Year-End
The Chief Minister set a target of connecting more than 2 lakh farmers with solar pumps by the end of the current financial year. He directed departments to regularly review scheme targets and revise them based on emerging needs to maximize coverage.
He also instructed officials to ensure all schemes are implemented within fixed timelines to achieve faster and more effective results.
Focus on PM Surya Ghar Scheme and Rooftop Solar Expansion
Dr. Yadav called for accelerating progress under the PM Surya Ghar Rooftop Solar Scheme, highlighting its potential for both energy generation and revenue creation for urban local bodies.
He also proposed a one-day orientation program in Bhopal for municipal officials to train them on waste management-based income generation and rooftop solar adoption, ensuring faster implementation at the local level.
KUSUM Scheme Progress and Large-Scale Solarization Plans
According to senior officials, significant progress has been made under key solar energy initiatives:
- Under Suryamitra Agricultural Feeder Scheme (KUSUM-B), around 27,100 solar pumps have already been installed.
- The government aims to solarize 4 lakh pumps in the next two years.
- Nearly 1 lakh applications have been received in the first phase.
- Under KUSUM-C, approximately 10 lakh farmers are targeted for solar electrification through 493 substations, ensuring daytime electricity supply.
- So far, 2.5 lakh solar pumps have been installed across the state.
Officials also confirmed that a detailed monthly implementation plan has been prepared to speed up execution.
2 GW Renewable Energy Park Planned in Morena
The meeting also reviewed the progress of a proposed 2,000 MW (2 GW) Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park in Morena, being developed in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh government.
The Chief Minister emphasized safeguarding Madhya Pradesh’s energy interests in the joint project. Officials informed that coordination with the Uttar Pradesh government is ongoing, especially regarding peak-hour green energy supply arrangements.
State Focus on Energy Self-Reliance for Farmers
Dr. Yadav stressed that the long-term goal is to make farmers energy self-sufficient while improving their financial stability through renewable energy adoption.
He directed departments to remain focused and committed to achieving clean energy targets and ensuring affordable electricity access across the state.
Senior Officials Present in Review Meeting
The meeting was attended by senior government officials, including the Energy Minister, Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretaries of Energy and Chief Minister’s Office, Finance Secretary, and senior representatives of the Madhya Pradesh Energy Development Corporation.
