New Delhi: The NCC Cyber Security Capacity Building Programme has been launched after a key MoU between the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT). This initiative aims to equip lakhs of NCC cadets with essential digital skills and cyber defence knowledge.
Announced by the Ministry of Defence, the programme focuses on strengthening cyber awareness, digital hygiene, and practical cyber security skills among youth. It is a major step towards building a digitally secure India and preparing trained “cyber warriors” for the future.
Details of NCC Cyber Security Capacity Building Programme
The MoU was signed in the presence of senior officials including DG NCC Lt Gen Virendra Vats and DG NIELIT Dr Madan Mohan Tripathi.
This collaboration aims to:
- Provide structured cyber security training to NCC cadets
- Improve digital awareness and online safety practices
- Build a strong base of cyber-ready youth across India
The initiative directly supports national goals like Digital India and skill development frameworks.
Two-Stage Training Programme Explained
1. Cyber Security Awareness Programme (Online)
- Duration: 15 hours
- Mode: Online (via NIELIT Digital University platform)
- Coverage:
- Digital literacy
- Safe internet practices
- Cyber hygiene
- Awareness of cyber threats
This stage will be available to all NCC cadets across India.
2. Cyber Defender Programme (Advanced Training)
- Duration: 60 hours
- Mode: Offline (for selected cadets)
- Selection: Merit-based screening
- Focus Areas:
- Hands-on cyber security training
- Real-life simulations
- Practical tools and techniques
This phase will help cadets identify and respond to cyber threats effectively.
Target: 1 Lakh Cyber-Trained Cadets
According to officials, the programme initially aims to train 30,000 to 40,000 cadets every year, with a long-term goal of scaling up to 1 lakh cadets annually.
This will create a strong network of trained “cyber cadets” who can:
- Spread awareness at the grassroots level
- Promote safe digital practices
- Support national cyber security initiatives
