New Delhi: North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) has signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for the upcoming Tato-I, Tato-II, and Heo Hydroelectric Projects.

The agreement was formalised on May 5, 2026, and will remain valid for 40 years from the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of the projects.

Major Step Toward Clean and Reliable Energy Supply

The long-term agreement ensures that electricity generated from these hydropower projects in Arunachal Pradesh will be supplied to Gujarat for decades.

Once operational, the projects are expected to:

  • Strengthen India’s renewable energy capacity
  • Provide stable and clean electricity supply
  • Support peak-load power demand
  • Contribute to low-carbon energy generation

Hydropower continues to play a key role in India’s transition toward clean and sustainable energy.

  • Improved energy security through diversified sources
  • Stable revenue assurance for hydropower projects
  • Stronger inter-state power trade framework

Boost to North-Eastern Hydropower Development

The Tato-I, Tato-II, and Heo projects are part of efforts to harness the vast hydropower potential of India’s North-Eastern region, particularly Arunachal Pradesh.

These projects are expected to contribute to:

  • Regional infrastructure development
  • Economic growth in the North-East
  • Expansion of sustainable energy capacity

Long-Term Clean Energy Vision

With a 40-year supply commitment, the agreement ensures long-term energy security for Gujarat while supporting India’s clean energy ambitions. It also strengthens the role of hydropower as a reliable and flexible source of renewable electricity.
