With lakhs of medical aspirants preparing to appear for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination on June 21, the Centre has stepped in to ensure that soaring temperatures do not add to students’ stress on exam day.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has written to all Chief Ministers, Lieutenant Governors and Administrators, seeking their cooperation for the smooth, fair and secure conduct of the nationwide examination.
HEATWAVE PROMPTS SPECIAL DIRECTIONS
In his letter, the minister highlighted the prevailing severe heatwave conditions and urged states and Union Territories to ensure adequate facilities at all examination centres.
The instructions include arrangements for safe drinking water, proper seating, working fans and coolers, clean washrooms, shaded waiting areas, uninterrupted electricity supply and portable toilets wherever required.
Shri Pradhan asked district authorities, schools, colleges and universities hosting the examination to prioritise the comfort and well-being of students appearing for the test.

STUDENT WELFARE TAKES CENTRE STAGE
Emphasising that students’ interests remain paramount, the Education Minister also urged state governments to ensure sufficient transportation facilities for candidates on the examination day.
The move comes amid concerns that extreme weather conditions in several parts of the country could affect travel and waiting conditions for aspirants and their families.
Officials believe that better coordination between local administrations and educational institutions will help avoid disruptions and ensure a stress-free environment for candidates.
FOCUS ON FAIR AND TRANSPARENT EXAMINATION
The Centre reiterated its commitment to conducting the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination in a smooth, transparent and fair manner.
Expressing confidence in the support of state governments, Shri Pradhan said coordinated efforts by all authorities would help ensure the successful conduct of one of the country’s most important entrance examinations.
The NEET-UG examination is a crucial gateway for admission to undergraduate medical courses across India and attracts lakhs of students every year.
