According to the company’s disclosure to the stock exchanges, the President of India has appointed Misra to the position. His tenure as Government Nominee Director will continue until the end of his tenure in the Ministry of Power or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The appointment brings to NTPC’s Board an experienced Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer with expertise in public administration, policy formulation, institutional governance and the energy sector.

Who Is Diwakar Nath Misra?

Diwakar Nath Misra is a 2000-batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre with over two decades of experience in government administration and policymaking. He currently serves as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power.

Earlier, as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, he led policy and institutional reforms aimed at strengthening India’s agricultural export ecosystem. According to the profile provided, these initiatives helped agricultural exports cross the USD 1 billion milestone for the first time.

His experience in these areas reflects his involvement in policy development, institutional reforms and India’s engagement with international organisations.

As Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Misra played an important role in shaping and implementing policy frameworks for India’s upstream hydrocarbon sector.

His work included the Hydrocarbon Exploration and Licensing Policy (HELP) and the Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP). These frameworks aim to facilitate the exploration and development of domestic oil and gas resources and support greater self-reliance in the energy sector.

His involvement in these policy initiatives adds to his experience across India’s broader energy value chain.
