₹90,000 Crore Railway Projects Transform Odisha: Massive Rail Network Expansion Underway Across All 30 Districts

Bhubaneswar:Odisha is witnessing a massive transformation in its railway network as projects worth over ₹90,000 crore are currently under execution, according to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The large-scale investment marks one of the most significant expansions in the state’s rail infrastructure in recent years, aimed at boosting both passenger convenience and freight capacity.

Record ₹10,928 Crore Budget Boost for Railway Development in Odisha

The Union Minister highlighted that Odisha has received a record railway budget allocation of ₹10,928 crore, significantly higher than previous years. This increased funding is enabling the faster execution of multiple infrastructure projects across the state.

The investment is expected to accelerate modernization efforts, improve connectivity, and strengthen operational efficiency across the railway network.

59 Stations to Be Modernised Under Amrit Bharat Scheme

As part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, a total of 59 railway stations in Odisha are being redeveloped into modern, passenger-friendly hubs.

These upgraded stations will feature:

  • Enhanced passenger amenities
  • Modern infrastructure and design
  • Improved accessibility and comfort
  • Better integration with transport systems

The initiative aims to transform railway stations into world-class facilities aligned with growing passenger expectations.

Bhubaneswar Railway Station Redevelopment Under Review

During his visit to Odisha, Vaishnaw reviewed the ongoing redevelopment of Bhubaneswar Railway Station. He emphasized the importance of timely completion and high-quality execution of the project.

The upgraded station is expected to offer improved passenger services, modern infrastructure, and a more efficient travel experience, making it a key transport hub in the region.

Rail Connectivity to Cover All 30 Districts of Odisha

A major highlight of the railway expansion plan is the goal of ensuring rail connectivity across all 30 districts of Odisha.

This initiative is expected to:

  • Promote balanced regional development
  • Improve connectivity in remote and rural areas
  • Integrate interior regions with national rail networks
  • Support economic inclusion and growth

The government aims to ensure no district remains outside the railway connectivity map.

Coastal Mega Rail Corridor from Balasore to Berhampur

One of the most ambitious infrastructure projects is the proposed four-line coastal rail corridor between Balasore and Berhampur.

This mega corridor is designed to:

  • Increase rail capacity along Odisha’s coastline
  • Support high-speed freight and passenger movement
  • Reduce congestion on existing routes
  • Strengthen regional trade and mobility

The corridor is expected to play a key role in boosting economic activity along the coastal belt.

Railways to Drive Odisha’s Economic Growth

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that these large-scale railway initiatives will significantly strengthen Odisha’s infrastructure ecosystem. The ongoing investments are expected to:
