New Delhi: Akhilesh Pathak has assumed charge as Director (Projects) of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) with effect from September 30, 2026.
His appointment was conveyed by the Ministry of Power through an order dated September 30. Pathak will continue as Director (Projects) until his superannuation on May 31, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Akhilesh Pathak Appointed Director (Projects) at POWERGRID
Pathak was recommended for the position of Director (Projects) by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on June 30, 2026.
He was selected from a panel of 12 candidates interviewed by PESB for the position.
Following his assumption of charge, the POWERGRID Board of Directors approved his appointment as Additional Director {Director (Projects)} at its meeting held on September 30.
With Pathak taking charge, POWERGRID Chairman and Managing Director Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan relinquished the additional charge of Director (Projects).

Akhilesh Pathak’s Educational Background
Pathak is a graduate in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Mangalore University, Karnataka, and completed his engineering degree in 1991.
He has also undertaken the Harvard ManageMentor Programme conducted by Harvard Business School.
Over 32 Years of Experience in Power Sector
A power sector professional with more than 32 years of experience, Pathak has worked across several areas, including:
- Transmission system planning
- Project execution and management
- Business development
- Strategic infrastructure development
- Transmission infrastructure development
- International projects
Pathak was part of POWERGRID’s first batch of Executive Trainees in 1993 and has held several leadership positions within the organisation.
Experience in Transmission Projects and Infrastructure Development
During his career at POWERGRID, Pathak has been involved in the development, execution, monitoring and commissioning of extra-high-voltage transmission lines and substations.
While working with the company’s Project Management Department, he contributed to:
- Capital expenditure utilisation
- Asset capitalisation
- Transmission line additions
- Project implementation monitoring
- Resolution of critical project-related issues
- Stakeholder coordination
His experience includes managing project implementation challenges through continuous monitoring and coordination with stakeholders.
Led Arun-3 Transmission Project in Nepal
Pathak also led the Arun-3 SAPDC Transmission Project in Nepal, where he handled cross-border, regulatory and geographical challenges associated with the project.
He has also contributed to POWERGRID’s business development initiatives, including the expansion of consultancy services and efforts aimed at increasing revenue.
Pathak’s Previous Role at POWERGRID
Before assuming charge as Director (Projects), Pathak was serving as Executive Director, OSD (Projects) at POWERGRID.
His professional experience spans project management, transmission infrastructure development, international projects, business development and strategic leadership.
With his appointment as Director (Projects), Pathak will oversee the company’s project-related responsibilities and contribute to the execution and development of transmission infrastructure.
