New Delhi: The President of India has appointed three judicial officers as Additional Judges of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, following consultation with the Chief Justice of India, in a move aimed at strengthening the judicial capacity of the High Court.
The appointments were notified by the Central Government on Friday (July 3) and announced by Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal through a post on X.
The newly appointed Additional Judges are:
- Sunitha Gandham
- Alapati Giridhar
- Purushottam Kumar Chintalapudi @ Ch. Purushottama Kumar
Appointments Made Under Constitutional Provisions
According to the official notification, the appointments have been made in exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India.
The notification stated: “In exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India, in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, the President is pleased to appoint the following Judicial Officers as Additional Judges of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.”
The appointments take effect from the dates the respective judges assume charge of their offices.

Law Minister Announces the Appointments
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal shared the official announcement on X, confirming the appointment of the three judicial officers as Additional Judges of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
The notification reiterated that the appointments were made after completing the constitutional consultation process with the Chief Justice of India.
Strengthening the Andhra Pradesh High Court
The induction of the three Additional Judges is expected to strengthen the functioning of the Andhra Pradesh High Court by enhancing its judicial capacity and assisting in the disposal of pending cases.
Additional Judges are appointed under the Constitution to address temporary increases in judicial workload and case pendency, thereby ensuring the efficient administration of justice.
With these appointments, the Andhra Pradesh High Court is expected to receive additional judicial support in handling its expanding docket of civil, criminal and constitutional matters.
