New Delhi: A group of IAS officers from the 2023 batch, currently serving as Assistant Secretaries in various Union Ministries and Departments, called on the President of India, Ms Droupadi Murmu, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre.

During her address, the President congratulated the young officers on their entry into the prestigious civil service and lauded the extraordinary determination and hard work that led them to this achievement. She emphasized that while their success had already transformed their personal lives, they now have the power – and responsibility – to bring about transformative change in the lives of countless fellow citizens.

“Work with Integrity, Simplicity, and a Sense of Duty”

Highlighting the vast scope and authority of their roles, the President said that the impact of their efforts could begin from their very first posting. She advised the officers to make special efforts for the upliftment of the underprivileged and suggested they revisit their initial postings after some time to witness the long-term impact of their contributions.

“The development and public welfare work done by you at the local and state level would help in achieving national goals,” the President stated, underlining the importance of grassroots-level governance in building a stronger nation.

“Your Work, Not Social Media, Will Define Your Legacy”

In a strong message on ethics and public perception, President Murmu reminded the officers that their true legacy would be defined not by their social media presence, but by the quality of their service to the nation. “Your real social net worth will be determined by your good work,” she said.

She further stressed the importance of honesty, integrity, and simplicity, stating, “Honesty is the most desirable policy in public service.” The President encouraged the officers to present examples of sensitivity and moral values in both their professional and personal lives.

Adapting to the Digital Age and Rising Aspirations

Acknowledging the evolving landscape of governance in the digital era, the President noted that citizens today are more aware and have increasing expectations from administrators. She advised the young officers to foster closeness with the public, ensure inclusive participation in development, and be responsive to issues raised by public representatives.

“The pollution of immorality and erosion in values are as serious as environmental pollution. In these challenging times, every public servant should work with an honest purpose,” she said, encouraging them to lead by example.
