Tripura: State-owned power sector financier REC Limited has signed a major agreement with the Department of Power, Government of Tripura, through the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), to support power sector projects worth ₹10,000 crore in the state.
The agreement aims to accelerate infrastructure development, strengthen electricity systems, and support sustainable growth in Tripura’s power sector.
The MoU was signed during the Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026 in the presence of Mr. Ratan Lal Nath, Hon’ble Minister of Power, Tripura.
REC and TSECL Partner to Accelerate Power Infrastructure
Under the agreement, REC will provide financial assistance for various power sector development projects in Tripura.
The partnership was formalised by:
- Mr. Subhendu Roy, Chief Program Manager, REC Regional Office, Guwahati
- Mr. Biswajit Basu, Managing Director, Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL)
The collaboration is expected to support the expansion and modernization of Tripura’s power infrastructure while improving energy access and reliability across the state.

REC Commits ₹5,000 Crore Support for Renewable Energy Projects in Tripura
In another major development, REC Limited has signed a separate Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) through the Department of Power, Government of Tripura, to support renewable energy projects worth up to ₹5,000 crore.
The agreement focuses on accelerating clean energy adoption, expanding renewable power capacity, and promoting sustainable development in Northeast India.
The MoU was signed during the Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026, highlighting the state’s growing focus on renewable energy and green development.
TREDA and REC to Drive Renewable Energy Expansion
Under the renewable energy partnership:
- TREDA, the nodal agency for renewable energy development in Tripura, will facilitate the implementation of renewable power projects.
- REC Limited will provide financial support to enable investments in the renewable energy sector.
The initiative is expected to help unlock Tripura’s renewable energy potential and contribute to India’s broader clean energy transition goals.

The partnership between REC, TSECL, and TREDA marks an important step towards strengthening the power ecosystem of Tripura and the Northeast region.
The combined investment support of ₹15,000 crore across conventional power infrastructure and renewable energy projects is expected to boost electricity generation capacity, improve power distribution networks, create new opportunities in the clean energy sector, and support sustainable economic development.
The initiative aligns with India’s vision of expanding renewable energy capacity and ensuring reliable power supply across all regions.
