Kochi: A fresh petition has been filed before the Kerala High Court challenging the decision that found no need for a vigilance investigation against DGP S. Sreejith, a 1996-batch IPS officer of the Kerala cadre, in connection with a complaint over his foreign visit.
The complaint concerns allegations that Sreejith travelled abroad without prior government permission and attended the inauguration of a private establishment while wearing his police uniform.
Earlier Clean Chit Had Been Set Aside
The latest petition follows an earlier Kerala High Court order setting aside a report that had cleared Sreejith. The court directed Home Department Additional Chief Secretary Minhaj Alam, a 1996-batch IAS officer of the Kerala cadre, to reconsider the complaint after hearing petitioner Dipin Edavana separately, without Sreejith present.

As the order was not issued within the court-set deadline, Alam appeared before the bench and informed it that the direction had been complied with. An order issued on August 19, after hearing Edavana, stated that no Vigilance inquiry was warranted for the time being.
Edavana has now challenged the order, alleging that the complaint was disposed of without a proper inquiry.
Complaint Against Sreejith
The original complaint was filed by Dipin Edavana, an Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector from Kannur.
The allegations included:
- Foreign travel without the required government permission
- Participation in the inauguration of a private establishment abroad
- Wearing the official police uniform at the event
Sreejith has denied the allegations, according to reports on the earlier proceedings.
Sreejith’s IPS Background
S. Sreejith is a 1996-batch IPS officer of the Kerala cadre. He was promoted to the rank of DGP in 2026 and is currently serving as Kerala’s DGP.
The latest petition seeks judicial consideration of the decision taken after the subsequent proceedings on the complaint.
