New Delhi: The Shipping Corporation of India Limited (SCI) has announced the appointment of Vipul Singhal, Director (SBR) in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), as a Government Nominee Director on its Board.
The appointment has been approved by the Competent Authority in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The Ministry conveyed the approval through a letter dated September 24, 2026, and SCI informed the stock exchanges about the development in compliance with Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
Vipul Singhal Appointed Government Nominee Director
According to the regulatory disclosure, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways approved the appointment of Vipul Singhal as Government Nominee Director on the SCI Board.
Singhal is currently serving as Director (SBR) in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. His appointment adds a government nominee from the administrative ministry to the Board of India’s state-owned shipping company.

While the Ministry has approved Singhal’s appointment, the exact date of his appointment to the SCI Board will be communicated to the stock exchanges separately.SCI said the subsequent disclosure will include the required details in accordance with the applicable SEBI Listing Regulations and the SEBI Master Circular dated January 30, 2026.
The company received the Ministry’s communication on September 24, 2026, at 11:24 hours IST.

Appointment Strengthens SCI Board Representation
The appointment of a Government Nominee Director is part of the Board structure of a government-controlled enterprise such as SCI. The nominee represents the interests of the Government as the administrative ministry exercises its oversight role.
SCI is currently pursuing several initiatives involving fleet expansion, shipping operations and sustainability. At its recent 76th Annual General Meeting, the company highlighted fleet augmentation, including two Very Large Gas Carriers, a shipbuilding contract with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders for a methanol dual-fuel platform supply vessel, and measures related to decarbonisation.
The latest Board appointment comes as SCI continues to work on its business and strategic initiatives within India’s maritime sector.
