The Supreme Court of India on Monday issued a notice to the Centre, seeking its response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the Centre for Public Interest Litigation (CPIL). The PIL challenges the appointment process of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) and has brought the selection procedure under judicial scrutiny.
The PIL calls for the President of India to decide the name of the CAG in consultation with an independent and neutral selection committee, which should include the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Chief Justice of India.
