Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna on Monday presented a comprehensive report card of the state police force, highlighting significant achievements in crime control, conviction rates, cyber policing, women’s safety and technology-driven governance during the period from May 31, 2025, to May 31, 2026.
In his first media interaction after becoming Uttar Pradesh’s first permanent DGP in four years, Rajeev Krishna outlined the force’s performance and credited the state’s zero-tolerance policy towards crime for substantial gains in law enforcement and public safety.
According to the DGP, Uttar Pradesh Police achieved an impressive 93 per cent conviction rate under Operation Conviction, while major crimes witnessed a notable decline and new AI-powered policing tools strengthened investigative and monitoring capabilities across the state.
93% Conviction Rate Under Operation Conviction
Presenting the annual performance report at the police headquarters in Lucknow, the DGP said courts decided 32,071 criminal cases during the review period.
Out of these, convictions were secured in 29,911 cases, resulting in a conviction rate of approximately 93 per cent.
The convictions led to sentencing of 42,681 accused persons.
Among the significant judicial outcomes:
- 18 offenders were awarded death sentences
- 3,340 accused were sentenced to life imprisonment
Rajeev Krishna described the figures as a reflection of improved investigation quality, stronger prosecution coordination and focused monitoring under Operation Conviction.
Major Crackdown on Organised Crime
The Uttar Pradesh Police continued its aggressive campaign against organised crime networks during the year.
According to the DGP:
- Action under the Gangsters Act was initiated against 5,684 criminals.
- Properties worth Rs 788.38 crore were attached under various legal provisions.
The anti-mafia drive also remained a key focus area.
Police authorities reported:
- Properties worth over Rs 336 crore were seized, demolished or freed from illegal occupation.
- Ten mafia members and twenty of their associates were convicted through focused prosecution efforts.
The DGP said the sustained campaign against organised crime has contributed significantly to improving law and order across the state.
Major Crimes Register Decline
Rajeev Krishna stated that Uttar Pradesh witnessed a decline in several major categories of crime during the year.
According to official police data:
- Robbery cases declined by 27.8 per cent.
- Theft cases fell by 14.4 per cent.
- Dacoity incidents reduced by 11.1 per cent.
- Cases of murder, rioting and burglary also recorded a downward trend.
The DGP attributed the improvement to proactive policing, targeted enforcement and enhanced surveillance mechanisms.
Women’s Safety Remains Top Priority
Women’s safety continued to be a central focus of Uttar Pradesh Police under Mission Shakti Phase 5.0.
Rajeev Krishna said Mission Shakti Centres were established in every police station across the state to provide integrated support and assistance to women.
Key highlights include:
- Around 13,500 personnel deployed for Mission Shakti initiatives.
- More than 40,000 police personnel trained on women’s safety and empowerment.
The DGP also shared encouraging trends in crime against women following the establishment of Mission Shakti Centres:
- Rape cases declined by 34 per cent.
- Kidnapping of women and girls reduced by 17 per cent.
- Dowry death cases fell by 13 per cent.
- Domestic violence cases declined by 10 per cent.
He said the initiative has strengthened both preventive policing and victim support mechanisms.
Strengthening Cyber Crime Response
The Uttar Pradesh Police significantly expanded its cyber policing infrastructure during the year.
A dedicated Cyber Crime Call Centre was established in Lucknow and its operational capacity was increased substantially.
According to the DGP:
- Call centre capacity was expanded from 20 seats to 80 seats.
- Plans are underway to increase capacity to 200 seats.
Cyber crime enforcement efforts also yielded significant results:
- Rs 400 crore linked to cyber fraud was frozen through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
- 1.11 lakh mobile numbers were blocked.
- 1.22 lakh IMEI numbers were blocked.
- A 91 per cent compliance rate was achieved under the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System.
The DGP said the measures have helped improve the state’s ability to respond swiftly to digital fraud and cyber-enabled crimes.
AI-Powered Yaksh App Driving Smart Policing
Technology emerged as a major pillar of Uttar Pradesh’s policing strategy during the year.
Rajeev Krishna highlighted the deployment of the AI-powered Yaksh App, which has enhanced operational capabilities through advanced analytical tools.
The application incorporates:
- Facial recognition technology
- Voice-based search features
- CrimeGPT integration
- Gang analysis tools
- Beat-level monitoring systems
According to the DGP, these capabilities are helping police identify fugitives, monitor habitual offenders and analyse criminal networks more efficiently.
The initiative reflects the state’s growing emphasis on data-driven and technology-enabled law enforcement.
Focus on Capacity Building and Training
The Uttar Pradesh Police also undertook large-scale training and capacity-building programmes during the review period.
The force trained:
- More than 60,000 newly recruited constables.
- Over 27,000 police personnel on the implementation of the new criminal laws.
The DGP said continuous training remains essential to improving professionalism and ensuring effective implementation of legal and technological reforms.
Road Safety Initiatives Show Positive Results
Rajeev Krishna also highlighted the impact of the Zero Fatality District initiative on road safety outcomes.
According to police data from the first quarter of 2026:
- Road accidents declined by 7.43 per cent.
- Fatalities reduced by 11.55 per cent.
The DGP said targeted interventions, enforcement measures and public awareness campaigns have contributed to improved road safety indicators.
First Performance Review by Permanent DGP
The presentation was particularly significant as it marked Rajeev Krishna’s first detailed interaction with the media after assuming charge as Uttar Pradesh’s first permanent Director General of Police in four years.
The report showcased the state’s efforts to combine strict law enforcement with technological innovation, citizen-centric policing and institutional reforms.
With strong conviction rates, expanded cyber capabilities, focused action against organised crime and increased use of artificial intelligence, Uttar Pradesh Police has sought to position itself as a modern law enforcement agency capable of addressing both conventional and emerging security challenges.
As the force moves forward, officials say the emphasis will remain on crime prevention, technology adoption, public trust and efficient delivery of police services across the state’s vast and diverse population.
