Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna, a 1991-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the UP cadre, has said that the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data validates the state’s “zero-tolerance policy” against crime under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
According to the NCRB 2024 report, Uttar Pradesh recorded a crime rate of 180.2, significantly lower than the national average of 252.3, indicating what the DGP described as a “clear improvement in law and order performance” across the state.
NCRB Data Shows Decline in Crime Rate
The DGP said that the NCRB statistics provide a scientific basis for comparing crime across states, and Uttar Pradesh’s improved ranking reflects sustained administrative and policing reforms.
He noted that the decline in crime rate is the result of continuous, structured efforts by the Uttar Pradesh Police over the last several years.
Zero-Tolerance Policy Driving Law and Order Improvements
Rajeev Krishna credited the state government’s strict anti-crime approach for strengthening law enforcement.
He said that the zero-tolerance policy against criminals has been effectively implemented on the ground, resulting in improved public confidence and better policing outcomes.
Key Policing Reforms Highlighted
The DGP outlined several major initiatives that, according to him, have contributed to the improvement in law and order:
- Modernisation of police stations across the state
- Active anti-Romeo squads to ensure women’s safety
- Women’s help desks in every police station
- Fast-track courts for quicker justice delivery
- Strong action against organised crime networks
He said these reforms have collectively strengthened the rule of law in Uttar Pradesh.
“Police Accessible Without Fear,” Says DGP
The DGP emphasized that citizens in Uttar Pradesh can now approach police stations without fear or hesitation.
He said even minor complaints received through digital platforms are promptly reviewed and converted into FIRs where necessary, reflecting a more transparent and responsive policing system.
According to him, higher FIR registration is not a negative indicator but rather evidence of a more sensitive and accountable police force.
Commitment to Public Safety and Transparency
Rajeev Krishna said the Uttar Pradesh Police is committed to building a culture of accessibility, accountability, and swift action under the leadership vision of the state government.
He added that continuous reforms and technology-driven policing are helping Uttar Pradesh strengthen its internal security framework and public trust in law enforcement.
