Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is seeking to expand its technology and manufacturing ecosystem beyond electronics assembly, with a growing focus on artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, technology and innovation.
Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada made the remarks while addressing a session titled “UP’s Journey from Electronics Leader to AI and Semiconductor Powerhouse” at the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show in Greater Noida on September 26.
Technology Push Beyond Noida
Prasada said the state’s technology development should extend beyond the Noida-Greater Noida region, with efforts to create electronics and technology opportunities in other parts of Uttar Pradesh.

He said this expansion could create opportunities for the state’s youth as investment and technology-related activities spread to additional regions.
Investments involving companies such as Samsung and Yotta, along with data centres, AI laboratories and related technology infrastructure, were cited by the minister as indicators of the emerging ecosystem.
Focus on Complete Electronics Value Chain
Prasada said the objective is to develop an electronics value chain within the state covering chip design, semiconductor components, electronic manufacturing and exports.
The minister also referred to India’s broader shift from product assembly towards component manufacturing, with the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) supporting investments across the electronics value chain.
The Union government has increased the ECMS outlay to ₹40,000 crore in Budget 2026-27. A recent PIB release said 106 projects had been approved under the scheme, with projected investment of ₹69,548 crore and around 75,000 direct jobs.
Uttar Pradesh is also among the states with approved ECMS projects. A Lok Sabha document said four of the 46 projects approved at that stage had proposed manufacturing facilities in Uttar Pradesh, while two electronics manufacturing clusters had been approved at Greater Noida and under YEIDA.
AI Adoption Among MSMEs
Prasada also called for greater adoption of AI by industries, particularly micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
He said businesses should use AI to improve productivity, operational efficiency and cost competitiveness rather than depending only on government incentives and subsidies. He also stressed the need for companies to develop their own competitive capabilities.
Industry-Academia Collaboration
The minister further emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between industry and educational institutions to develop talent for the emerging technology ecosystem.
He said Uttar Pradesh would need young people equipped to work as AI innovators, researchers and technology adopters as the state’s technology and manufacturing activities expand.
