Raipur: On the occasion of International Olympic Day, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai participated in a tree plantation and sports award ceremony organized by the Chhattisgarh Olympic Association at Palod village in Nava Raipur. During the event, he planted a rudraksha sapling and extended greetings to athletes, coaches, and sports enthusiasts across the state.
The Chief Minister described sports and environmental conservation as two key pillars of nation-building.
2036 Saplings Planted to Support India’s Olympic Bid
Highlighting India’s aspiration to host the 2036 Olympic Games, the Chief Minister said that the plantation of 2,036 saplings during the event symbolically reflects the nation’s ambition.
He stated that the initiative is not just a plantation drive but a commitment toward building a:
- Healthy India
- Green India
- Strong and future-ready India
The programme aimed to connect environmental awareness with India’s global sporting ambitions.

Chhattisgarh Focused on Strengthening Sports Infrastructure
CM Vishnu Deo Sai said that the state government is continuously working to promote sports talent and provide better opportunities for athletes at national and international levels.
He added that efforts are being made to develop:
- Modern sports infrastructure
- Training facilities for young athletes
- A supportive environment for competitive sports
The aim is to help youth fully realise their sporting potential.
Success of Khelo India Tribal Games and Bastar Olympics
The Chief Minister highlighted Chhattisgarh’s achievements in hosting major sporting events, including:
- Khelo India National Tribal Games
- Bastar Olympics
He said these initiatives have helped bring recognition to athletes from remote and tribal regions. The Bastar Olympics, in particular, saw participation from lakhs of youth, reflecting growing enthusiasm for sports in the state.
Financial Support and Incentives for Athletes
The state government is also focusing on financial and institutional support for athletes. The Chief Minister said that:
- Special budget provisions have been made for sports development
- Outstanding athletes are given incentive awards
- Support is being provided to encourage higher performance

Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao said that Chhattisgarh has immense sporting talent and the government is introducing new initiatives to strengthen sports culture in the state.
Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap highlighted youth participation in sports and encouraged large-scale tree plantation under the “One Tree in Mother’s Name” campaign. He also mentioned upcoming initiatives like the Surguja Olympics.
