New Delhi: Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) Chairman and Managing Director Dr Hemant Sharad Pande on Tuesday reviewed mining operations and coal transportation activities in the company’s Nagpur Area and directed officials to strengthen production and dispatch.
During his visit, Pande inspected various mining and working sites, reviewed production plans and assessed measures to improve operational efficiency and coal movement.
Pande Inspects AIKD Opencast Mine
At the AIKD Opencast Mine, Pande inspected the AIKD and Inder patches, with a focus on overburden removal and production planning.
The review covered:
- Overburden removal, involving excavation of material above coal seams.
- Production plans for the remaining period of the financial year.
- Measures to meet assigned production targets.
- Operational progress at the mine.
Pande also reviewed departmental working patches at HoE, inspected the coal face and discussed production plans for FY 2026-27.

Equipment Deployment and Overburden Removal Discussed
At FSNL’s new HoE work site, discussions focused on the deployment of equipment, the proposed overburden removal plan and effective utilisation of available resources.
The WCL CMD reviewed the operational requirements and emphasised efficient use of machinery and resources to support mining activities.
Environmental Clearance Enhancement Explored
During the visit, officials also discussed the possibility of enhancing the mine’s environmental clearance to support higher operational capacity.
However, the press note did not specify the proposed increase in environmental clearance or provide details of any additional production targets linked to the proposal.
WCL Reviews Coal Transportation and Rake Loading
Pande also reviewed the transportation of coal from the mine to the railway siding.
He subsequently visited Dhumri Siding, where discussions were held on measures to improve rake loading and strengthen coal dispatch operations.
Improving coal transportation and rake loading is aimed at ensuring smoother movement of coal from the mining area to the railway network.
Senior WCL Officials Accompany CMD
Senior officials from WCL’s Nagpur Area and sales department accompanied Dr Hemant Sharad Pande during the review.
The visit covered both mining operations and coal transportation, with emphasis on improving production, efficient resource utilisation and strengthening dispatch mechanisms.
