Kolkata: The newly elected CM Suvendu Adhikari-led West Bengal government on Sunday carried out another significant bureaucratic reshuffle, appointing two IAS officers and seven WBCS (Executive) officers to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) as the new administration led by Suvendu Adhikari continues to reorganize the state bureaucracy.
The latest appointments are being seen as part of a broader administrative overhaul following the formation of the new BJP-led government in West Bengal.
P Promoth and Navneet Mittal Appointed as Joint Secretaries in CMO
According to official notifications, P Promoth and Navneet Mittal have been appointed as Joint Secretaries in the Chief Minister’s Office with immediate effect.
- P Promoth was previously serving as Joint Secretary in the MSME and Textiles Department.
- Navneet Mittal was posted as Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Paschim Medinipur.
Both officers will play key roles in supporting the functioning of the Chief Minister’s Office.
Seven WBCS Officers Posted as Senior Deputy Secretaries
In addition to the IAS appointments, the government has also posted seven WBCS (Executive) officers as Senior Deputy Secretaries in the CMO.
The officers were drawn from departments such as:
- Housing
- Fisheries
- Land Reforms
- Various district administrations
According to the official notification, the following officers have been appointed as Senior Deputy Secretaries in the Chief Minister’s Office:
- Pramit Das (Batch 2003) – Previously District SWO and SEO, Howrah
- Samrat Chakraborty (Batch 2004) – Formerly in the Housing Department
- Amartya Chakraborti (Batch 2007) – Transferred from the Fisheries Department
- Ayan Dutta Gupta (Batch 2007) – Previously Sub-Divisional Officer, Diamond Harbour
- Rajarshi Nath (Batch 2008) – Formerly SDO, Bardhaman Sadar North
- Dip Bhaduri (Batch 2008) – Previously District SWO and SEO, Purba Medinipur
- Surajit Ray (Batch 2011) – Formerly Additional Director, DLRS
These appointments are expected to strengthen administrative coordination and decision-making within the Chief Minister’s Office.
Administrative Overhaul Continues Under New Government
The reshuffle comes just a day after the state government transferred or reassigned 16 officers who had been serving in the CMO during the tenure of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The moves indicate a comprehensive restructuring of the state’s top administrative machinery under the new leadership.
Retired IAS Officer Subrata Gupta Appointed Adviser
Soon after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in, retired IAS officer Subrata Gupta was appointed as Adviser to the Chief Minister.
In another important appointment, Shantanu Bala was named as the Chief Minister’s Private Secretary.
Part of Broader Bureaucratic Reorganization
The appointments are being viewed as a strategic effort to establish a new administrative framework after the BJP ended the Trinamool Congress’s 15-year rule in the state.
The strengthening of the CMO with experienced IAS and WBCS officers is expected to help the government implement its policy priorities more efficiently.
BJP Secures Massive Mandate in West Bengal
The BJP won 206 seats in the 294-member West Bengal Assembly, marking a dramatic shift in the state’s political landscape.
The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), which had dominated West Bengal politics for 15 years under Mamata Banerjee, was reduced to 80 seats.
