Patna: Indian hockey has achieved a historic milestone at the Asian Games 2026, with both the men’s and women’s teams winning gold medals in the same edition of the continental tournament. Bihar Rural Development and Information & Public Relations Minister and Bihar Hockey Association president Shravan Kumar congratulated both teams, describing the achievement as a proud moment and a strong foundation for the continued growth of Indian hockey.
Kumar said the simultaneous gold-medal victories by the Indian men’s and women’s hockey teams mark a historic achievement for the country. He attributed the success to the players’ hard work, discipline and team spirit.
Women End 44-Year Asian Games Gold Wait
The Indian women’s hockey team defeated China 1–0 in the final to win the Asian Games gold medal after a gap of 44 years. The victory also secured India a direct qualification place for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
India produced a disciplined defensive performance against the defending champions. Lalremsiami scored the decisive goal, while goalkeeper Savita played an important role in keeping China from finding an equaliser.
The result brought the women’s team back to the top of the Asian Games podium after four decades and added another major achievement to India’s recent progress in international hockey.

Men’s Team Retains Asian Games Hockey Gold
The Indian men’s hockey team completed the double on Saturday by defeating Malaysia 5–1 in the final. The victory helped India retain its Asian Games hockey title and also secured direct qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Captain Harmanpreet Singh opened India’s scoring through a penalty corner. The Indian side then maintained an attacking and controlled approach throughout the match to secure a convincing victory.
The win also marked India’s second consecutive Asian Games men’s hockey gold and its fifth overall gold medal in the men’s competition. India had earlier defeated Pakistan 4–3 in the semi-final.
