From IIT Delhi to the IPS: A Journey of Dedication - The Man Behind the Navsari Gold Coins Recovery
Indian Masterminds Stories

Vadodara/Surat: IPS Sushil Agrawal, a 2017-batch officer of the Gujarat cadre, is currently making headlines in the state for his exceptional investigative skills and proactive policing. Born on 20 August 1990 in Surat, Gujarat, Sushil Agrawal pursued B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Delhi, before appearing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2016, securing Rank 224, and joining the Indian Police Service.

Known for his strong analytical skills, dedication, and active field presence, he currently serves as Superintendent of Police (SP), Vadodara Rural, overseeing law and order across a vast jurisdiction while managing major events like India-New Zealand ODI matches and the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) matches at Vadodara’s Kotambi Stadium.

The Navsari Gold Coins Case: A Landmark Investigation

Sushil Agrawal first gained widespread recognition during his tenure as SP of Navsari for solving a complex case involving the theft of 240 British-era gold coins.

A woman had entrusted a contractor with the renovation of her house while she was abroad.

The contractor subcontracted the work to tribal laborers from Madhya Pradesh, who discovered 240 gold coins hidden in a wall.

Instead of reporting the find properly, disputes arose, and some local police officers were allegedly implicated, leading to arrests in Madhya Pradesh.

Under Sushil Agrawal’s leadership, the Navsari Crime Branch:

  • Conducted multiple field visits to Madhya Pradesh
  • Set up a police camp in the state to oversee investigations
  • Recovered all 240 gold coins, which were later handed over to the court
  • Released several innocent police officers wrongly implicated

This case showcased his strategic approach, patience, and field coordination, earning him accolades across the state.

  • Crackdown on liquor mafia Lala Jaiswal, linked to 32 cases, with property worth Rs 102 crore seized under the GUJCTOC Act
