An Independence Day programme at the Orai Collectorate auditorium in Jalaun has sparked controversy after a video purportedly showing IAS officer and Chief Development Officer Rinkoo Singh Rahee making remarks about Bhagat Singh surfaced on social media.
The video, which has since been widely circulated, shows the officer addressing the gathering from the stage. During his speech, he allegedly questioned Bhagat Singh’s personality and role in the freedom struggle, prompting criticism from members of the public and local social groups.
Remarks on Bhagat Singh Trigger Controversy
According to the video being shared online, Rahee is allegedly heard describing Bhagat Singh as “the biggest fool” when viewed from today’s perspective. He is also purportedly heard saying that Bhagat Singh was “never a good child” during his time.
The remarks have drawn attention because they were reportedly made during an Independence Day programme held at a government venue. Bhagat Singh, who was executed by the British government at the age of 23, remains one of the most prominent figures of India’s freedom movement.
Video Sparks Anger on Social Media
The video has led to strong reactions on social media, with several users questioning the appropriateness of such remarks by a senior government official during a national event.
Local residents, youth and social workers have also criticised the alleged comments, arguing that statements concerning a widely revered freedom fighter should be made with care, particularly from an official platform.
Calls for Action Against the Officer
Following the circulation of the video, some social media users have demanded disciplinary action against the IAS officer. The controversy has also drawn attention within administrative circles.
As of now, there has been no official clarification from the Jalaun district administration regarding the authenticity of the video, the context of the remarks or any proposed action against Rinkoo Singh Rahiee.
