India is a country with rich biodiversity that should be protected at all costs. However, poachers and criminals all across the country try and rob it through their illegal practices.

Keeping this in mind, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Muzaffarnagar, Mr. Abhishek Yadav has established new police ‘chowkis’ around the wetlands of the region and renovated police barracks to provide a bit of comfort into police personnel’s life on duty.

In an exclusive conversation with Indian Masterminds, the IPS officer talks about his new model ‘chowkis’ and barracks.

TRANSFORMING POLICE CHOWKIS

Until a year ago, there was no police presence in Haiderpur wetlands in Muzaffarnagar and because of that a lot of illegal poaching of migratory birds took place in the region. The place had no police station within the vicinity of 20-25 km, and it took about 30-40 minutes for police to reach there in case, a crime was reported.

“Therefore we established this police outpost with dedicated staff as we realized that it was important to save the biodiversity of the country and such biodiversity-rich places should have a police presence to keep away the criminals,” Mr. Yadav told Indian Masterminds.

Mr. Yadav also appointed patrolling staff in the area, to keep a check on the activities going around. Besides, he beautified the police ‘chowkis’ to make them more people-friendly so that the public isn’t scared to reach out to the police.

“Because the place has rich wetlands, we wanted to make the place people friendly in its look so we painted and beautified it in a manner that people, as well as kids, feel welcome,” he added.

The officer’s aim is to make police outposts people friendly

MODEL POLICE BARRACKS

Policing takes a lot of courage. Our police servicemen go around in scorching heat and rain to patrol, solve cases, and arrest criminals. After a tiring day out, they deserve a proper place to go back to and rest for a while. Just like us, they even deserve a proper workplace with adequate facilities to make the conditions easier for them.

Since the area is quite remote, Mr. Yadav established model police barracks with all the required facilities for personnel, so that they could rest properly after a tiresome day.

“Barracks are usually not present at police outposts. Our outpost lies on the border and is in a remote area. The district headquarters is at a distance of 1-1:30 hour and there is no town or settlement till 30-40 minutes. Therefore, we created fully furnished barracks with all the facilities so that the staff feels motivated and can take rest,” the officer told Indian Masterminds.

ADARSH MAHILA BARRACK

On the occasion of International Women’s Day that falls on March 8 th every year, Mr. Yadav launched special model barracks for women. Police personnel leads a tough life, with having to work for 12 hours at a stretch sometimes.

As Mr. Yadav said, “The work can be back-breaking at times. The least that we can do is provide them with a clean and comfortable environment to take a rest in. The whole outlook was to give them all the facilities of comfort under a roof such as room heaters, television, bed with storages, almirahs, dressing room, etc.”

The entire renovation was done in a way that it looked beautiful and was comfortable so that if a person comes back after working for 12 hours, they feel at home. The modern barrack for women has the capacity to accommodate 15 personnel at a time.

No wonder Mr. Yadav’s efforts to bring comfort into police personnel’s lives and to save the rich biodiversity of the country are garnering him accolades.
