From IIT Gold Medalist to IPS Officer: Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Uncle Abhishek Chauhan Secures AIR 102 in First Attempt

Indian Masterminds Stories

Samastipur: In an inspiring achievement, Abhishek Chauhan, the maternal uncle of India’s Under-19 World Cup cricket star Vaibhav Suryavanshi, has cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination 2025 with an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 102.

A resident of Rajajan village, Abhishek achieved this milestone in his very first attempt through self-study without any formal coaching, earning a place in the prestigious Indian Police Service (IPS).

Celebrations in Samastipur

As soon as the results were announced by the Union Public Service Commission on March 6, 2026, celebrations erupted in Abhishek’s native village and surrounding areas.

Villagers burst firecrackers and distributed sweets, while family members and relatives gathered to congratulate him on the remarkable achievement. His success has brought immense pride to the people of Samastipur district.

Family Background

Abhishek Chauhan comes from a well-educated family. He is the son of Abhay Kumar Singh and Anuradha Rajput. His father currently serves as the Registrar of Nalanda Open University.

The news of Abhishek’s success was also shared on social media by Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s father Sanjeev Suryavanshi, who posted a photograph with Abhishek and described it as a proud moment for the family.

Brilliant Academic Journey

Abhishek Chauhan has been a brilliant student since childhood.

He studied at Ramakrishna Mission School Purulia, after which he pursued an Integrated M.Tech in Geology from the Indian Institute of Technology, where he graduated as a gold medalist.

Following his studies, he briefly worked at a multinational company for about six months. However, driven by his desire to serve the nation, he left the job to prepare for the civil services examination.

Preparation Through Self-Study

Abhishek began preparing for the civil services in 2022, studying mainly from Hajipur and relying largely on self-study and expert guidance rather than formal coaching.

In 2025, he cleared both the Preliminary Examination and the Mains, and later appeared for the interview in 2026, where he confidently answered the panel’s questions.

His consistent dedication ultimately led to the outstanding result of AIR 102 in UPSC CSE 2025.

Inspiration for the Region

Abhishek’s success has become a source of inspiration for students across Samastipur and Bihar.

Local residents remarked that while nephew Vaibhav Suryavanshi is bringing pride to the district through his achievements on the cricket field, Abhishek Chauhan has enhanced the region’s reputation by entering the administrative services.

This uncle-nephew duo has now become a symbol of inspiration for young people in the area.

Family Reactions

Several members of the family expressed joy over Abhishek’s accomplishment, including:

• Ajay Kumar Singh
