New Delhi: RailTel Corporation of India Limited has secured a significant contract worth ₹26.72 crore from South East Central Railway for the supply and installation of an Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) network. The project, awarded through a Letter of Acceptance (LoA), will strengthen railway communication infrastructure and is scheduled for completion by March 5, 2027.

Scope of the Optical Fiber Cable Project

The RailTel project involves end-to-end implementation of OFC infrastructure. Key components of the work include:

  • Supply and transportation of optical fiber cables
  • Trenching, laying, and backfilling
  • Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and HDPE pipe insertion
  • Blowing, jointing, and termination of optical fiber cables

This comprehensive scope ensures robust, high-speed connectivity across the designated railway routes, enhancing digital infrastructure and operational efficiency.

Project Timeline and Execution

The official work order for the project was received by RailTel on 6 March 2026 at 20:30 hours, and the company has committed to completing the execution by 5 March 2027. This 12-month timeline underlines RailTel’s capability to deliver large-scale telecom projects within strict deadlines.

The company also clarified that neither the promoter nor the promoter group has any interest in the entity awarding the contract, confirming that the order does not constitute a related-party transaction.

The project represents a significant domestic contract for RailTel, contributing to the company’s ongoing efforts to expand high-speed broadband and digital infrastructure across Indian Railways. By implementing this OFC network, RailTel will support enhanced communication systems, better operational monitoring, and improved connectivity for railway staff and passengers.
