Amaravati: The Government of Andhra Pradesh has decided to initiate disciplinary proceedings against senior IPS officer P.V. Sunil Kumar, the former Director General of the State Disaster Response and Fire Services, who is currently under suspension. The action will be taken in accordance with Rule 8 of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969.
The decision, announced on Thursday, follows closely on the heels of the arrest of another senior IPS officer, P.S.R. Anjaneyulu. Mr. Anjaneyulu was arrested in connection with a case involving alleged harassment of Mumbai-based actress Kadambari Jethwani. In contrast, Mr. Sunil Kumar is facing separate allegations of misbehaviour and misconduct.
In Government Order RT No. 763, issued by Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, it was stated that Mr. Sunil Kumar had undertaken multiple foreign trips that deviated from the approved itinerary. The officer also reportedly embarked on several overseas visits without prior government approval.
“Mr. Sunil Kumar is directed to submit a written statement of defence and also to state whether he desires to be heard in person, within 30 days of receipt of this order,” the G.O. stated. “He is informed that an inquiry will be held only in respect of those charges which are not admitted. He is, therefore, required to specifically admit or deny each allegation.”
The G.O. further warned that failure to respond within the stipulated time would be treated as an admission of guilt, and disciplinary action would proceed accordingly.
This latest development marks a significant step in the state government’s ongoing efforts to uphold accountability and discipline within the civil services.
