New Delhi: The Central Government on Wednesday announced a series of important appointments and additional charge assignments across the Ministry of External Affairs, Department of Space and the Delhi Police.

Among the key decisions, Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer Anjani Kumar (IFS:2003) has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Ukraine, while Dr. V. Narayanan, Secretary, Department of Space and Chairman, Space Commission, has been entrusted with an additional responsibility as Member (Finance), Space Commission for a temporary period.

Separately, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi approved the assignment of the additional charge of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Recruitment) to Darade Sharad Bhaskar (IPS:AGMUT:2013).

Anjani Kumar Named Ambassador to Ukraine

The Appointments Committee has appointed Anjani Kumar (IFS:2003), who is currently serving as Joint Secretary at the Headquarters of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), as the next Ambassador of India to Ukraine.

A career diplomat with over two decades of experience in the Indian Foreign Service, Kumar is expected to assume his new assignment shortly. His appointment comes at a significant time as India continues to strengthen diplomatic engagement with Ukraine while maintaining its balanced foreign policy approach amid the ongoing regional security situation.

Dr. V. Narayanan Assigned Additional Charge in Space Commission

The Competent Authority has approved the assignment of the additional charge of Member (Finance), Space Commission to Dr. V. Narayanan, who currently serves as Secretary, Department of Space and Chairman, Space Commission.

Dr. Narayanan will hold the additional responsibility with immediate effect until July 19, 2026, during the leave period of Ms. Seema Jain (AS:1991), the incumbent Member (Finance), Space Commission.

The temporary arrangement is intended to ensure continuity in the financial administration and functioning of the Space Commission during the absence of the regular incumbent.

Delhi Police Officer Gets Additional Responsibility

In another administrative decision, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi has approved the proposal to assign the additional charge of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Recruitment) to Darade Sharad Bhaskar (IPS:AGMUT:2013).

Mr Bhaskar, who is presently serving as DCP Headquarters-III, will discharge the additional responsibilities related to recruitment in Delhi Police alongside his existing duties.

The decision is aimed at ensuring the smooth functioning of recruitment-related activities within the Delhi Police until further orders.

Key Administrative Decisions

Wednesday’s notifications reflect routine but significant administrative appointments across the diplomatic, space and policing sectors. While the appointment of Anjani Kumar reinforces India’s diplomatic presence in Ukraine, the temporary additional charge assigned to Dr. V. Narayanan ensures continuity in the financial oversight of the country’s space administration. Meanwhile, Delhi Police has also streamlined its administrative responsibilities by assigning the recruitment portfolio to a serving senior IPS officer.
