Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna Defence PSU, has received a ₹2,463 crore contract from the Indian Air Force (IAF) for the supply and servicing of Ashwini Radars. The contract was signed in New Delhi on Wednesday between BEL and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, Air Marshal Tejinder Singh, Dr. Ajay Kumar (JS & AM, MoD), and BEL Director (Marketing) KV Suresh Kumar.
Ashwini Radars are fully indigenous Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radars, jointly developed by DRDO and BEL. They are equipped with integrated Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) technology and advanced Electronic Counter-Countermeasures (ECCM) features. These mobile radars are capable of 4D surveillance, automatically detecting and tracking aerial targets, including fighter aircraft and slow-moving objects. Designed for deployment in all terrains, they enhance India’s air defence capabilities.
The production of Ashwini Radars will involve multiple industry partners, supporting indigenous manufacturing and strengthening India’s defence self-reliance. With this latest order, BEL’s total order book for FY25 has reached ₹17,030 crore, reinforcing its position as a key player in India’s defence sector.
