Punjab: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has announced a large-scale development initiative worth ₹177 crore for the historic city of Batala, aimed at transforming its infrastructure and restoring its cultural and urban legacy.
Batala, known for its historic 12 gates and spiritual significance linked with Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, is set for a comprehensive facelift under the state government’s urban development mission.
₹95 Crore Municipal Projects to Transform City Infrastructure
As part of the development push, the municipal corporation will execute projects worth ₹95.72 crore, focusing on improving urban services and public infrastructure.
Key works include:
- Beautification of 8 major public sites
- Construction of a modern Sanitation Park
- Installation of advanced sanitation machinery worth crores
- Development of 10 new public toilets
- Compost pits for organic waste management
The government also emphasized transparent and quality-driven road construction across the city.
Road and Transport Infrastructure Gets Major Boost
In addition to civic upgrades, multiple departments will execute large-scale road and connectivity projects:
- ₹65.09 crore for road construction by the Public Works Department
- ₹42.56 crore for road renovation by the Market Board
- ₹34.97 crore additional road works by PWD
- Construction of 4 new bridges in Batala constituency
- ₹14.81 crore allocated for a new police line
These projects aim to strengthen connectivity and modernize urban transport infrastructure.
Focus on Cleanliness and “Vibrant Punjab” Mission
The state government stated that Batala’s redevelopment is part of the broader vision of a “Vibrant Punjab”, focusing on cleanliness, sustainability, and modern urban planning.
Officials highlighted that initiatives such as compost pits and sanitation parks will promote eco-friendly waste management and improve city hygiene standards.
CM Mann Attacks Previous Governments, Calls for Accountability
During the event, CM Bhagwant Mann launched a strong political attack on previous governments, accusing them of neglecting development and mismanagement.
He said the current government represents “governance with accountability” and is committed to ending corruption and inefficiency in public systems.
Strict Law Against Religious Sacrilege Introduced
CM Mann also highlighted the passage of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which introduces strict punishment for acts of sacrilege.
He emphasized that protecting religious sentiments and maintaining peace and harmony in Punjab remains a top priority of the government.
Welfare Schemes and Public Benefits Expanded
The Chief Minister also highlighted several ongoing welfare initiatives:
- Free 300 units of electricity for households
- ₹10 lakh cashless health insurance under the health scheme
- Government jobs provided to over 65,000 youth
- Financial support for women under welfare schemes
- Free healthcare services benefiting lakhs of citizens
These initiatives aim to improve living standards and strengthen social welfare across Punjab.
Strong Focus on Governance, Youth and Development
Senior leaders including AAP representatives also emphasized that Punjab is witnessing major reforms in governance, education, health, and employment.
The government reiterated its commitment to youth employment, transparent governance, and long-term infrastructure development.
Batala Set for Urban Transformation
With ₹177 crore in new development projects, Batala is set to undergo a major transformation in infrastructure, sanitation, roads, and public services.
The initiative reflects the Punjab government’s broader vision of rebuilding historic cities while promoting sustainable and inclusive urban growth.
